The Philippines had seen quite a lot of natural disasters in the past two decades. Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and typhoons seem to be common uninvited visitors to this country. And it may be that these natural mayhem-makers come part and parcel with living in our little corner of the world: according to a recent article from The Manila Bulletin, a study from the Center for Research and Epidemiology Disasters (CRED) revealed that the Philippines is the top disaster-prone country in the entire world.

On top of that, we seem poorly prepared for the eventualities of these disasters. You only need to recall Typhoon Ondoy’s devastating aftermath. This article on Spot.PH adds that Metro Manila is ill-equipped to face an earthquake, which is something that is likely to happen some time in the future, given the activity in the West Valley Fault.

These reports all point out to one thing—we should never be complacent. While we cannot stop Mother Nature from throwing a tantrum, we should always be prepared to face disaster once it strikes. In the slide show below, we’ve shared 12 tips to help give you a head start on preparing for the worst while hoping for the best.
