Santuario de San Jose in Mandaluyong City apparently released a statement that urges parishioners who support the Reproductive Health Bill to abstain from receiving communion "until they go to Sacramental Confession and renounce the RH Bill." The statement adds that the RH Bill is "not only unconstitutional and ineffective," but also "immoral and evil."

While the parish acknowledges that their decision is controversial, they clarified that this action is "not a condemnation of sinners, but a condemnation of sins and a call to the sacrament of reconciliation."

This statement from the Parish Pastoral Council of Santuario de San Jose comes hot on the heels of the the House of Representatives voting 20-3 to endorse the RH Bill for plenary approval.

Update: The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) released a statement denying that any sort of announcement was made by the parish of Santuario de San Juan. Fr. Melvin Castro, executive secretary of the CBCP's Commission on Family and Life says, "There’s no such statement made by the bishops."

Fr. Maximo Sevilla, parish priest of Santuario de San Jose also denied that they are banning RH BILL supporters from receiving communion. He says, "We categorically deny that we made an announcement last Sunday. We have at least 13 Masses during Sundays and they can check that with all the churchgoers."
