A couple is being sought by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and the National Bureau of Investigation-Environmental and Wildlife Protection and Investigation Division (NBI-EWPID) for "violating Section 6 of Republic Act (RA) 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998 and Section 9 of RA 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act."Sixto Comia, NBI-EWPID chief, is recommending the prosecution of Chita Dorma Ridon and Vic Ridon after they have been identified as the people behind a website featuring "crush" videos--homemade movies that feature Filipino girls who torture animals to death. The crime was brought to the attention of the NBI-EWPID by Ramona Eliza T. Consuji, a representative of the Animal Welfare Coalition, who provided the videos as proof.
According to a report published on ManilaBulletin.com, the crush videos are sold to foreign clients who pay anywhere from $80 to $200 for the clips. Even more disturbing is the fact that clients can request what kind of animal they want to have tortured or killed.
The same report quotes Chief Comia as saying, "We’ve long been looking for this couple because of the spread of crush videos in the country."
PETA is offering a reward of P100,000 for anyone who is able to provide information on the couple.
