Bea Rose Santiago, the stunning Pinay representative to the Miss International 2013 pageant, won the crown on December 17 (Tuesday) in Tokyo, Japan.
According to a report from PEP.ph, Bea had the super typhoon Yolanda victims in mind before the competition.
“I’m not going there as Bea Santiago, I’m going there as Miss Philippines. And if I win or make it, that would bring happiness this Christmas. I want to give them a very merry Christmas—that’s one of my goals. And I think the least that they want right now... they need, you know... let’s make them smile,” the beauty queen was quoted as saying.
“'Yun po yung gusto ko ipakita na, Philippines, no matter what happens to us, kahit na nabagyo man tayo, I’m gonna bring the storm in Japan (I want to show the entire world that no matter what happens to us, even if we got hit by a storm, I'm gonna bring the storm in Japan.). That’s what I’m gonna do,” she added.
BEa Rose is the fifth Pinay to win the Miss International crown. PEP.ph reports that Gemma Cruz first won the pageant in 1964, followed by Aurora Pijuan in 1970, Melanie Marquez in 1979, and Precious Lara Quigaman in 2005.
In addition, she's also the third Filipino beauty queen to win in an international competition in 2013. Mutya Johanna Datul was crowned Miss Supranational 2013 back in September. Megan Young also won the Miss World 2013 pageant in the same month.
