Even those without children know it's tough to be a parent, but being a solo parent is even harder. Not only do they have to raise their kids by themselves, but they also have to budget the livelihood of a single parent for the entire family. It helps that the Philippines has a Solo Parents' Welfare Act or Republic Act 8972, which was passed back in 2000. In case you missed it, solo parents are entitled to a solo-parent ID, which makes them eligible for a lot of benefits. Plus, the term "solo parents" doesn't just refer to moms or dads—even grandparents or those taking care of nieces, nephews, and even godchildren by their lonesome are entitled to one.
If you already have your solo-parent ID, here's some more good news: According to Manila Bulletin, the Quezon City Council has approved a proposal that compels restaurants and other food establishments in Quezon City to give single parents a 20% discount on the total bill of the family not exceeding P2,000 every first Saturday of the month from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Time to check out these new Quezon City restaurants!
