Never has been a dog more like a guy as when you decide to have one as a pet. The dog, I mean, not the guy. To paraphrase that unforgettable Tagalog movie line: "Ang pag-aalaga ng aso hindi parang kaning isusubo na pag napaso iluluwa!" If only people would treat dog adoption a lot like tying the knot—with much thought, preparation and all that fuss just to make sure they’re really ready—then maybe we wouldn’t have as many neglected, abandoned and homeless canines around.

Come to think of it, getting a dog companion is a lot like getting a male companion, and I mean that in the best way. They both need lots of love, time, affection and ultimately, commitment.
