Filling a new house with furniture is like getting hand-me-down clothing from friends--or so the owner of this home says. Of course, this depends on who your friends are. The owner is fortunate enough to have been surrounded by a generous lot who gave furniture as gifts. These items were originally intended for his restaurant, but when that venture closed, the pieces found their way into his home.

But restaurant-grade furniture comes with its own challenges. For example, you run the risk of having your house look like a place to eat rather than a place to live. But this particular home is tempered by some personal and sometimes quirky touches. Framed black-and-white photos hang on the walls of the living area, cute travel souvenirs adorn shelves filled with books and magazines in the dining room, and a stuffed frog rests atop one of the pillows in the master bedroom, lending some of the owner's personality to the decor.
