Long before it was socially acceptable to wear slippers outside of the home, Anne Arcenas-Gonzalez, managing director of marketing and sales of Havianas, already dreamed of flip-flops that were fun ad fashionable as well as comfortable. "I'm all for roughing it up. I'm such a water person," says Anne, who grew up spending summers on the beach with her family. "We were big about local travel. Back in the '80s, we hitched a ride on a Negros Navigation ship to get to Boracay simply because there were no flights going there."As more Filipinos became enamored with local travel, Anne predicted that a love affair with the island would follow. "And this meant the need for resort wear like flip-flops!" she recalls. In 2003, she and her husband Freddy brought in Brazilian brand Havianas--and flip-flops were never the same again. Anne's company, Terry S.A., now exclusively distributes Havianas in Singapore and Malaysia, too. It's been a dizzying ride, but this mom says she's still got her slippered feet firmly rooted on the ground. Here are her tips on work, fitness, and family life.
