Cervical cancer, which is caused by certain strains of human papillomavirus (HPV), continues to be a big threat to women in the Philippines with 6,000 diagnosed and 4,349 dying each year, global pharmaceutical company MSD reports. According to the company’s US data, HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection. Although the immune system usually removes HPV naturally, its frequent occurrence in both males and females still poses a high risk for getting diseases like cancer.
