Sis grumpybear, unfortunately, the current model is not the same shell as britax anymore.  yung previous version ng FP safe voyage, up to 2007 or 2008?, britax ang subcon nila so same shell as the previous generation britax convertibles. But they changed subcon to French based Team Tex na for the current models.  But still Team tex is a reputable manufacturer of car seats in europe.

I saw a Britax car seat na naka-sale sa mothercare. From 12k, 6.5k na lang. Sarap bilhin but ok na din kase si Zoe sa car seat nya hehe

^ It's the Britax Eclipse.  I don't really like it because it is for use only from 9kg -18kg FF so it's not really a convertible seat.  It can't be used for a newborn baby.  And besides, it's not recommended to front face a baby until 2 y/o or the car seat is outgrown RF.   Sana yung Britax First Class Plus na lang yung nakasale para from birth....

Or you can do online shopping and get a seat that is less than $100 (Evenflo Titan,  Maxi Cosi Priori on sale) and ship here through pobox or if you have relatives in the US, have the car seat delivered to their address so they can ship through balikbayan box shippers. Depending on the size of the car seat box, shipping shouldn't be more than $100.

sis, have you tried this na? talaga bang nasa $100 lang ang shipping? this is what i'm thinking of doing kasi parang ang kaunti ng options dito and super mahal. i really want a convertible seat with a weight capacity na pang newborn to at least 65 lbs. i'm just worried na lalo ako mapamahal dahil sa shipping. i've inquired with a few forwarders na din but i'm still waiting for their reply.

yup, tried this.  I had the car seat shipped to my relative in the US. Then, they shipped the car seat to me through atlas shipping.  Shipping cost of the car seat (evenflo triumph 65) was 100 USD since the box is big. Shippers calculate cost based on volume so it's best to have the box dimension of the car seat that you plan on buying when requesting for estimates.

sis micci, the safe voyage can be used with kids up to 40 lbs. so depende sa size ng bebe mo kung ilang mos. niya magagamit. on average, kids reach 40 lbs. at around 3-4 years old. about where to buy, sm north edsa pa lang na-check ko and they don't have it there. i'm not sure about other branches pero feeling ko wala rin. ang nakita ko lang na car seat brands sa sm are maxi cosi, safety 1st and yung local brand na giant carrier. by the way, if wala ka pa stroller you might want to try yung mga travel systems (stroller + infant car seat). merong goodbaby brand sa sm that offers travel systems for as low as 12-13K.

sis nunis, i still haven't bought a car seat. been thinking about my choices and natakbuhan ako ng oras. i'm due na in april so hindi na aabot if ever oorder ako sa US. gusto ko kasi paglabas ng hospital naka-car seat na si baby. no choice na ako but to buy locally.

we didnt have a carseat til she was 9months. we thought our baby doesnt need it. Pero since naglilikot na siya we opt to buy  carseat. sulit naman kahit medyo late na kami bumili. kasi she stays put dun lang when inside the car. so i think magagamit pa niya yun til mag 3years old siya or so. so im happy naman with our purchase.

@micci - When you travel with your baby using your own car, mas important for me ang car seat kaysa sa iba pang baby stuff.  It's dangerous kasi if wala at nakakalong lang sa lap ang baby.  Hindi lang sya for convenience but the primary function is for safety.  Magaan kalungin ang baby pero in an emergency situation like kung kailangan magbrake ng malakas dahil may biglang tumawid na tao or aso or pusa or manok or whatever,  an unsecured baby can slip out and fall off sa lap causing injuries. Paano din kung di pa nakareact agad yung kumakalong.

For infants you can get a travel system that has an infant car seat as suggested by sis jpeach.  Note lang that this may not last long since most travel system infant car seat has a weight limit of 22 lbs.  Minsan naman hindi na umaabot ng 22 lbs kasi mabilis lumaki ang baby.  May rule din ang car seats kasi regarding height ng baby.  Other option is to get a convertible car seat.  Ito yung pwedeng rear facing kapag newborn to 9 kg or up depende sa model and then front facing from 9 kg up to the limit ng seat.  May height restrictions din ito.  pero mas matagal nyo itong magagamit.

Ang advantage ng infant car seat/travel system compared to a convertible is mas convenient sya pag baby pa kasi this normally has a base na naiiwan sa car then yung bucket ay snap in lang.  kung lalabas na ng car, snap out lang yung bucket sa base then snap in sa stroller.  Ang downside is madaling kalakihan. Minsan 6-9 months lang.  swerte na pag umabot ng 1 yr.

Ang convertibles naman,  matagal ang gamit pero you have to harness your baby sa car and take him/her out of the car seat everytime bumiyahe kayo.  Pero this will last a lot longer, usually till toddler years.

By the way,  Rear facing is safest and sa US they don't recommend using front facing seats until 2 years old.

Sa mga models naman,  get one that would fit your car and one that you think can be PROPERLY installed easily.

micci, aside from nuni's very informative post, i suggest you do your own research especially with the brand and model you're considering. may iba baka may recall, or hindi maganda ang reviews, etc.

when it comes to baby gear (stroller, car seat, playard), i relied heavily on online reviews kaya ang daming research bago kami bumili.

yesterday, i went out on yet another car seat shopping mission and ended up going home without one pa din! i was hoping to find a good deal sa sm baby co. travel gear sale pero hindi naman pala kasama sa sale ang mga car seats nila.

tumuloy na lang kami sa rustans and nakita ko dun yung brevi car seat. i really love how it looks and mukhang maganda talaga ang construction niya (made in italy daw sabi nung sales guy) pero i didn't buy it kasi wala pa akong nabasang reviews ng brevi. nagdalawang isip din ako dahil it's a little more expensive than the fisher price, around 3k din ang difference.

when i got home, i checked reviews agad and positive naman ang feedback sa brevi. torn tuloy ako ngayon. i don't know which one to go for, fisher price or brevi. alin kaya mas okay?

^ hi sis,  i was also able to check out the brevi grand prix silverline when i was doing my car seat shopping.  it really looks sturdy pero napaisip ako kasi 2 position lang yung harness height nya so it may not last long or it wouldn't fit well for small babies.

Have you been to Metro Mall in Market Market?  They have car seats din that are not usually available sa Rustans and Baby Co.  The last time I checked, although a few months ago na, they have Evenflo and Cosco car seats.
