Waldorf is about all things natural kasi, and TV/screen time isn't considered natural   actually, I find some of their ideas very illuminating and liberating, which is why I am hoping to know more by taking the crash course next year... I doubt I can be all out Waldorf din (like go vegetarian, or sugarless, haha) but I have seen the positive changes in us ever since we adapted some of their ideas...

I guess it also helps that I know some Waldorf kids and have seen for myself that they can be just as intelligent as other kids, even though they weren't trained in the typical educational systems...

you're right about finding the learning styles that our kids will benefit most from... and heaven help, it doesn't seem to involve sitting down for my son

Ask ko lang... kung mahigpit ang mga homeschool on being a christian or catholic? kasi iyong anak ko e muslim.. Is there a home school na pwede sa ibang religion aside from christian or catholic?

Oh, yeah, I noticed that as well, most of the homeschool advocates are Catholic and specifically enforcing Catholic subjects. Paano nga kung di rin ako Catholic?

^^I think this is why some homeschoolers will avail of a curriculum and then mag-aadditional na lang sila for the religion part.

i think ganito din ang gagawin namin. husband and i are baptized catholics. but we don't hear mass regularly anymore. i can impart the values to my son pero i want him to have faith din. like we have faith in him pero no religion talaga. i cannot be beside my son always so i want him to have his faith na kakapitan nya when he needs it. something like that. kaya we might go back hearing mass din.

another that i would add to the curriculum is filipino and chinese. napansin ko lang from forums i've read kasi na sa filipino usually nahihirapan kapag homeschool (tama ba?). while chinese, kasi gusto ko sya matuto ng chinese - i wanted to learn this before so baka gusto nya din. yung chinese, maybe a separate instructor for that. pero yung filipino, sana may makuha akong magandang curriculum.

You can also call private schools, particularly progressive schools. Many of them offer homeschool curriculum or a home-blended program, although they don't advertise it. Some progressive schools offer these programs to accommodate students with special needs (including the highly able or gifted learners, because they belong to the special needs category, too).

DOLLY... actually, I find naman na most homeschooling institutions are Christian-based, nagkataon lang na there are a lot of Catholics here in the country. I'm sure talking to your prospective schools will yield more info but I am also assumming that they won't turn people away because of different faiths... yun nga lang, if you're not practicing a faith, it may prove harder to teach your child about it.

TIGGER... personally, I think kaya nahihirapan sa Filipino ang mga kids these days is because even their parents don't speak it well anymore. Usually, middle-income (and up) households speak Taglish or English, yung mga yaya or helpers na lang ang nagtatagalog. So, there's a disconnect for the kids (lalo pa, the books they grew up reading/knowing, or the shows they watch, English). Ngayon ko na lang nga din na-realize yung value ng raising your child in your mother tongue eh... kaso hirap na rin kami to speak in Filipino with our sons.... so sabi ko, mag-sked na lang ako ng Tagalog Tuesdays and Thursdays  sa bahay

^ oo nga e. taglish na these days. with homeschooling pa limited sa local curriculums ang filipino - syempre. hehe! sumagot naman sa aking ang kidsahoy sa email. tamad din ako magtawag dahil sa time constraints ng office hours. mabilis naman sila sumagot sa akin. at gusto ko nga sana ipasok din ang anak ko for their saturday classes. masyadong hapon na kasi yung weekdays nila at nap time nya yun e.

Sis, Bible based naman most that I know whether Catholic or Christian (even non practicing) might be okay with this.  Focused mostly lang naman on Values, ex. like ours in sonlight.com...we start with a memory verse na teaches on humility, kindness, integrity, honesty based on the bible scripture that day. 

But, other religion wala akong alam nga lang.

^ Hi sis, I checked out HAP, Asia World for Home schoolers (tama ba, di ko sure), and yung Victory Elijah School. Si HAP, US accredited, si Asia World dating IT company ata na nag-add on ng home schooling and now nag-fo-focus na rin sila dun, si Victory Elijah, madaming extensions  ng school, Dep Ed accredited and 20 yrs na raw sila. All of them are open to any religion. Kaso I'm torn, parang okay yung HAP, kaso sabi ni Ms. Bevs, wala pa raw accreditation for pre-schoolers kasi formal US accreditation starts at Kinder daw. Okay lang ba yun? Also, paano yun US accredited lang sya hindi Dep Ed. Pero here's what indicated on their FAQ's:

HAP is not a regular school, thus, not under DEPED or CHED Philippines. However, the U.S. school we enroll our students in is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education. Thus, when your child is enrolled with us it is like being enrolled in a U.S. school that is of international standard. Furthermore, DEPED Order No.26 S.1994 says that a student that finished a level abroad is eligible for admission to the next level here in the Philippines. See the Placement Principle in this DEPED Order No.26 S.1994.

I cannot believe that homeschooling has been going on for years dito sa pilipinas and yet there's not a clear procedure about accreditation. parang ang gulo pa rin. parang swertehan kung matatanggap ba ang anak mo when they would want to go to a regular school. tama ba? kasi 2 months na ako nagreresearch tungkol dito pero up to now, wala pa rin akong makitang clear instruction or kahit ano mang kasiguruhan na makakapasok sa regular school ang anak ko should we decide to stop homeschooling around grade 2 or 3.

IMO, like in our case, I did homeschooling independently using a US based (US Dept. of Ed accredited) homeschool curriculum.  Wala naman akong problem sa pag transfer into regular big school (Prep) with my son since like a usual school... I kept records (have quizzes, trimestral exams) with my son.  So dinala ko lahat dun during the assessment.

I don't think there should be a problem with this re DEPed, since a lot of pre-schools's are also not DEPed Recognized. That parents are not aware of as well (Yung isang school ng anak ko is not and they offer complete pre-school).

Just keep records, intend to set goals, and you can always go to DEPed to give them your exam records, or have your child assessed every year (I'm lazy lang on this). Then... wala dapat issue.

Education is for everyone and no school/s should stop a child from going into the school... bawal kasi yun.  Bakit ang mga artista, ok lang?

Yes.  Super tipid talaga.  Less the baon, school bus, uniform pa.

I spent approx. 40k (kasi may shipping e otherwise, 30k lang) for Kindergarten curriculum.  Tipid, kasi I get to pass them to the younger siblings.  So, extra gastos mo lang would be paper, art materials.

If you'll get here locally... tama around 15k (if photocopied version) mas mahal ng konti if you want the colored.
