I personally went to home school. 3rdyear high Angelicum college 5 years ago. I worked my ass off lowest grade was 85 highest was 93 not bad na din. I went to school 2-3 hours twice a week depending on how fast you finish your tests. Angelicum is a good school.

is Angelicum offering homeschooling, or a home study/distance learning program? nalilito ako...

anyway... in case anybody can help... has anyone tried Waldorf homeschooling? Kasi iba ang curriculum ng Waldorf but I like what it stands for, but only have plans to homeschool till grade 6... syempre am concerned na masyado naman behind yung child ko sa high school... and I dunno if they credit Waldorf homeschooling here (or basta pumasa yung bata ng placement test, tapos)

thanks

Hello everyone,

I plan to homeschool my daughter.  She is 4.5 years old.  I would like to consider TMA.  This year, they lowered down their rates from 34500 last year to 25000 this year. The only thing that bugs me is that, what is included in that rate?  I mean I can understand sa calvert - they give you all the books.  So, I feel like - where does my money go?

Can anyone enlighten me?  I mean mas reasonable pa ang CFA, only 14k? But the only thing is that I am not a Catholic....wala na ba akong choices? I live in QC area.

Your inputs and thoughts are welcomed.

the tuition should be the least of your considerations sis... although of course, malaking factor sya...

do you like the curriculum of cfa? or do you prefer tma?

i have not enrolled my son in any yet kasi 3.5 yrs old pa lang sya (and we're waldorf playschooling muna, no academics)... so whatever I say, you should still double check... but ang alam ko, tma's tuition also covers parent training/enrichment sessions... hindi ba covered ng tuition nila ang books? if not, expensive nga if hindi pa covered ang materials

ang Living heritage is over P30k din kasi kasama bond, but after that, yung materials na lang and that can be as cheap as P3-8k yearly

can you click on the link i posted before this post? that has a list of schools... Kids Ahoy is near you din, blended learning naman sila...

kami naman Catholic... But based on my research I am leaning towards TMA or Living heritage nga (kaso nga, Catholic kami, haha)... I am also considering Christopherus (not local) for waldorf homeschooling :)

my 6yr. old daughter enrolled at Living Heritage Academy- School of Tomorrow. Level 2 na sya and here's the subjects:
Math
English
Word Building
Social Studies
Science
Filipino
Araling Panlipunan

Eto naman fees nya: one time payment  lang to hanggang high school na.
Diagnostic Test P1000
Family Fee P15T
Student Reg P2500

Tuition fee P3000 (annual)

Books P3900+ (less 10% discount pag cash)

If my kid is having problem with detaching from me, do you think homeschooling is still for us? She as at kindermusik when she's 1.5 yrs old and now at Montessori at 2.5 yrs old, although advance ang skills ang problem ko is gusto nya lagi lang ako nasa tabi nya. Please enlighten me.

Hi Sis Dolly,

You have a very emotionally intelligent kid there.:) Good for you! :)

Each kid is unique and being too attached could just be a phase of growing up.  Besides, don't hurry up on your child...she's still a baby.  My son started regular school at 3, kindermusik till 5.  Grabe, he was so attached that during his entire nursery, nasa classroom niya either me, yaya or occasionally my husband! haha! Buti, mabait ang school where we placed him.

Little did I realize that my son's intelligence is intrapersonal. Kaya he's so attached (till now that he's 6).  It worried me,kasi when I let him decide that he needed to be alone in school.. it affected his studies.  Totally, parang nag regress...:(  I placed him in homeschooling for 1 year (as it is mydesire to do that).  Loand behold...I realized with homeschooling...he became more advanced.  His social skills is so advanced that he was never shy to talk to adults.

Nagugulat ang mga tao when he speaks to them.  Best of all, he became more secure with dealing with his age group.

I believed, that kids who are homeschooled are more socially advanced.  One, since mas exposed sila talking with adults, they think and talk more maturely.  When most kids arein a regular school, kids ten to act and think like kids.  Their socialization is more between their own ideas of being kids.  Parang ganto yan, if you are with an english-talking environment shempre you will have to talk that way, but if you are exposed with people who talk deep filipino, you get to catch it too.

Kids are like that too...but mas madali silang ma dala ng environment.  Homeschooling doesn't deprive your kids of social life (esp if started early, harder if older like 9years above).

^Hi Sis, thanks for the reply.
I know she's too young, but we've been to schools in the province and everybody and I mean teachers and esp. parents are all very eager in insisting to have their kids left alone in the school. I know to myself that it will just give big trauma to the kids as all I can hear during class are some kids crying out, looking for their mamas who actually left their kids with practice teachers and one actual teacher. And if I stay around (which is I'm still doing up to now), I get this "you're-not-supposed-to-be-here" treatment. That sucks I know.

I'm still not sure about homeschooling cause this might require me to go full time mom but I've been pondering on this since she's only turning 3 and sometimes she doesn't want to go to school, I want her to take things slowly and make her love what she's doing. She does speaks like an adult , well that is even before we put her in school. Maybe because she's the first child and first grand daughter and first of everything, hehe.

Bottom line is I'm still interested with homeschooling. So if you could refer me to anyone I would appreciate it really. But we're in the province so that's one of my concerns. Thanks!

I do get the same feeling when for 1 year I'm still with my son during the time he's insisting that I stay with him (and that is almost everyday or other days with yaya).

It is stressful when you think of what others would say.  Kaya, natuto ako not to mind them but to know what my child needs.

Then day after day, I would ask him there will come a time that you will one day go to school on your own! Isn't that exciting!! Then you'll tell mom about the songs you sang in school.. etc... but, today I want to be with you in school.  But can you do me a favor? Tell me when you think you are ready to be on your own because if we take too long... mommy might be too big to fit in your classroom and break the chairs or table there.  I don't like that, isn't it?  mommy's too big for the baby chair.  So, please tell mom when you're ready to do it your own, ok? Then, I promise to pick you up after school.

Mahabang usapan,sis.

And... first of the entire world ang son ko din! Just like yours... kaya super attached.

Well, I am homeschooling my son and got my curriculum from the US at sonlight.com. Nag order ako then they shipped it here sa pinas.  Homeschool is great for those who travel a lot kasi there is no strict rules.

To abide with DEPED regulations, you just have to go there to have your son do an exam for his level for preschool.  When my son was 5, we did kinder level (P4/5) then wala naman rinerequire na mga docs pag pre-school if you suddenly decide after a year to bring him back to regular school.

You can also try TMA Homeschool baka they can refer you to a nearby playgroup.  though, since sonlight ako...I didn't have a playgroup.  Honestly, my son's playgroup are mostly family members, a few neighborhood kids and our church friends. :) Since, first of the entire family siya (haha) - wala din siyang cousins toplay with.  But, he's 6 now and I must say... wala kaming prob with socialization masyado lang mabait naman... nakakainis na gusto mo may laban naman. :D

Sis, I've inquired before to sonlight, I was hesitant lang kasi they might not be able to ship yung mga materials. But if you were able, I might check it again. I also inquired to TMA, but since province based nga kami hindi ko mataunan yung mga seminars nila.

Until when mo plan i-home-school sya? I heard kahit hanggang highschool pwede?

i'm also considering to homeschool my children.. my worries are:
1) is it not depriving them of the chance to experience "a normal student life"? like syempre when we're older, we get to reminisce our grade school days, friends, experiences..
2) di kaya  sila ma-shock pag labas nila sa "real world"? syempre, they would be shielded from bullying & other harsh realities when they are at home..
3) would they not become too dependent on their parents?
4) another thing pala is how do you explain to the child why he is in a different school set-up? nakikita kasi nung toddler ko yung cousin nya pag papasok ng school na naka-uniform & all... at lagi nyang sinasabi na gusto na din daw nya pumasok ng school and may concept na din sya na iba ang teacher sa mommy..

to those who have been successful in homeschooling their kids,  pls enlighten me.. TIA :)

sis dolly,

Yes, you could do it till high school.  It is actually much easier for little kids to start homeschool early than those na 8 or 9 years old and up and suddenly na pull-out from regular school kasi may mga barkada na sila.

My friends who are homeschooling, they said na yung mga anak nila who started homeschooling early (pre-school) ayaw mag regular school.  While yung mga a little older na, may mga grudges sa kanilang mga parents.  Although, I know of another friend who homeschooled his son at 9 (mahirap daw at first) then during high school he went to Dela Salle.  Walang hiningi na reguirements except entrance exam.

In my case, since may desire talaga ako to homeschool so, I used sonlight for 1 year.  My goal is makahabol siya and maging secure siya of who he is, since too attached nga siya then I feel too early ko siya napa school kaya parang nag sawa.

When he turned 6 for Prep, nakita ko na he's ready.  Inexcite ko siya to look for a school together with me (of course, naghanap ako ng top 3 ko).  I chose Montessori method kasi napaka dependent ng anak ko kasi laki sa yaya who does all the things for him. :)

Now, I am so happy... siya na ang gumagawa ng assignment niya at 6 and can't wait to go to school on his own.  Of course, nung 1st few weeks sinasamahan ko muna to reassure him then eventually... siya na lang basta I would always tell him to tell me when to leave him na alone.

He's very happy in school and super "easy peasy" daw.  I enrolled him at OB Montessori kasi it is the original montessori.

My 2 daughters are now homeschooling with me, though 2 palang sila but I would plan to homeschool till they're 3-4.

Sonlight delivers here kahit nga sa Africa.  Yun nga lang, if sakanila... expect to pay additional 10k for the taxes if nasilis ng customs.  But, all in all around 35k+10K ang binayad ko for the great 1 year of sonlight na pwede kopa ipasa to the younger sibs.

Hi Hippie Mommie,
We don't deprive them.  It is actually much normal to do homeschool than regular school.  Ever since, it is originally at home and the mom who teach and impart to her children before nag karoon ng regular school when moms started and needed to work.  We just got used to the norms kaya mas normal ngayon ang regular school. If started early, they will never miss out on those.  Kaya most moms I know of, sa High School sila nag reregular school.  The younger years kasi is the developmental stage ng bata kaya after which, naimpart mona ang values to the kid to prepare for him for HS/college.

A professor I know of,said that those homeschooled were much more inquisitive and mas magaling daw in life in terms of gathering info.

homeschooling is not for everyone.  It is a sole decision of both parents to be able to focus and set homeschool his/her priority.  Kaya, kahit work at home mom ako - mahirap talaga kasi I would set morning as my homeschool time then work in the afternoon till night. :) pero, hindi din ako closed with the idea of regular school... it is really what best fits your family. :)

ngayon lang ako nakabalik sa thread na to... iceebaby, inspiring ka! i haven't started anything structured with my son... after enrolling him in a play school, we haven't started on worksheets or whatever :D

in a way, bad ata na i enrolled him in a waldorf school kaya lalo akong naging lax :D  but again, inspiring thread, this one... and the other (teaching your toddler-preschool kid) one :)

Hi Sis delisyus!
Uy,thanks! Naku...work in progress pa din ang pagtuturo ko. hay... :D

I'm not quite sure talaga with Waldorf. All I know is play-based talaga and it is strictly (tama ba?) no TV or videos?  Iba iba talaga ang mga opinions diyan e, but I don't think bad you enrolled him there.  Waldorf nga is also good... pero tama ka.  Ako naman, I didn't really mind too much ang pre-school ng eldest ko noon.  I think it is more of na lax din ako kasi my thinking is - pre-school lang yan. Diba?

Pero, when I realized biglang hindi maka-read or write ang eldest ko masyado at 4... na-cram ata ako! haha!  Di din ako much into worksheets kasi parang dapat puro play pa sila but I realized... dapat there should be balance pala.

I honestly feel that play-based is good but may draw back din (for me, lang ha.) Kasi, naisip ko that in real life situation... it isn't always playing and having fun.  In college and even big schools... gosh - it isn't always about learning by playing.  There are routines, independence, right manners, and worksheets (yikes).

Kaya ayun, I somewhat Homeschool and had my son attend Montessori since in Montessori they have balance (Sensory materials thru Montessori Materials, worksheets by experiments and matinding independence! - kids have to learn how to put back their stuff after using it). :)
