When I think about it, I thought this apology was yet another foul. What made it worse was that vice ganda had to share his actual phone conversation with jessica soho to the public when he could have only mentioned it and not every detail of it. Lumalabas tuloy na maarte at ma-pride pa si JS. Especially with billy (or was it vhong?) saying something like, "kung ang Diyos nga marunong magpatawad, tao pa kaya." If JS has indeed accepted his apology now, baka pilit lang since people might think na she thinks so highly of herself or something.

And I agree with the other sisses here, we shouldn't compare ourselves to Americans. Just because they do it there doesn't mean we have to do the same. They have different culture afterall.

hindi kasi nagets ni vice yung meaning ng mga ginagawa niya. iniisip nya as long as hindi na si jessica soho ang ijoke nya at ibang personality na laitin nya ay ok na. he sadly missed the point of the whole controversy. Pag nag sorry dapat wala ng buts and ifs parang di tuloy bukal sa loob niya. Pero tama rin naman na masyadong maraming nakikisawsaw kaya lumaki ang issue.

And seriously - all those people citing American examples....How do you think Hilary Clinton or let's say Barbara Walters (a more appropriate example vis-a-vis Jessica Soho) would react if a comedian made a joke about them being gang raped?

True. I already gave an example of a rape joke gone bad in the U.S., Daniel Tosh. Americans, in general, don't take rape jokes lightly. 

Another poster here gave an example that comedians make fun of Sarah Palin all the time, so why are we being too sensitive about the VG joke.  My comment is, comedians in the U.S. make fun of WHAT she says; comedians don't make fun of her weight nor her being gang raped.  There lies the difference.

I believe the thought of the posit is what if ang ginawan niya ng ganon ay si Sharon o si Kat, hindi kaya magre-react similarly as Jessica? i think that if comics constantly thought about not offending people, they wouldn't be able to produce anything. these days, everyone is so touchy, everything is suddenly offensive. 

... if the joke was truly offensive, it would have been so regardless of who's on the receiving end of it, to the point that no one would suggest other "acceptable targets".

... i find it hypocritical that some would say the joke is very offensive and that JS should not be made a laughingstock since she' a very respected journalist, and then suggest why not make Sharon, kat de castro, dumbo the subject of the joke. We agree the joke was offensive so why suggest anyone to be the target of it? So kung hindi respected journalist okay lang na gawing katatawanan...

Ang sa akin din lang, siguro kung tahasang sinabi ni Jessica na na-offend siya sa joke ni Vice, maintindihan ko yun.  PERO when she did not say/admit that she was slighted but instead said that ""Rape is not a joke and should never be material for a comedy concert"  and that "...this should not be about me but about rape victims who suffer tremendously from this terrible crime. The horrors they go through are unspeakable and should never be taken lightly, especially by way of a cruel joke."  eh teka muna, naiba na ang tema.

Napapaisip tuloy ako, ano na ba ang matitira sa comedy kung walang tatamaang issue or tao at hindi considered inappropriate, racist or offensive?

So sino ang 'acceptable' na gamitin sa rape joke ni Vice Ganda? Arnold Clavio said something similar when he reacted re VG's joke:

Is this about VG's joke? Or is this about VG using a respectable personality as a target of his joke? So if VG chose an ordinary citizen or a less popular starlet, okay lang?

The objective of comedy is to entertain and to amuse. An effective talented comedian will find a way to entertain the audience without resorting to insults or controversy. A good comedian will find "joke material" in the mundane things in life (Hello Jerry Seinfeld!!) A good comedian will know which boundaries he needs to respect and which lines he cannot cross.

There are dozens, perhaps hundreds of topics a comedian can cover that are not offensive, inappropriate or racist. If a comedian cannot come up with good joke material w/ out resorting to offensive, racist or inappropriate themes then he should be fully ready to be attacked and criticized. Don't cry like a baby and act like a victim after knowing fully well that you have offended people through your choice of joke material.

In comedy, as in many forms of "art" - there are certain taboo subjects that should NEVER EVER be used for AMUSEMENT or LAUGHTER. If some people think "gang rape" is an ok subject just because "comedy naman yan eh" "it's just a joke!" ...then what about the rape of children? child pornography? Ano, ok din ba na gawin subjects yun ng jokes? Because following some of the logic I've read here "well as long as it's a joke from a comedian...."  or "Anything goes in a comedy bar..."

Where do we, as a society and as an audience, draw the line when it comes to taboo or "do-not-touch" subjects for comedians? I am glad to see many girls here absolutely disgusted and outraged at the fact na ginawang joke yung subject ng rape. Using rape as material for comedy and entertainment is absolutely vile and disgusting.

I agree with RichV. I like Vice. Some of his materials and bits are genuinely funny. But rape will always be a horrible subject, more so for a comic material.

When Seinfeld was promoting his Bee movie, he said OF BEES:  "They have no crime, they have no drugs, they have no rape. A little rape, but it's not that bad."  Nothing wrong there, right?  BUT Radar, an entertainment and gossip website, tried to gin up controversy on what he said.  It sensed an opening (whatever that is, as I don't see anything there) and plowed through, calling a few anti-rape activists and asking them to comment.  Predictably, they were outraged.

Seinfeld has since apologized, "I was only referring to the insect world. I'm sorry if anyone got upset. I have a long history of including rape bits in my stand-up act, and was, in fact, the first comedian to do a date rape joke on Johnny Carson. And the last episode of my show included prison rape material. What I am trying to say is, kahit sino or ano pa yung content ng joke, if taken out of context, may butas at butas pa ring makikita.

On the issue at hand, para sa akin, na-offend si Jessica Soho sa joke ni Vice Ganda, which is about her weight.  I just didn't like how she turned it into a battle call for rape victims, which is hindi naman about that.  Just my two cents.

Clearly Jessica Soho, the VICTIM of the GANG RAPE JOKE did not see it the same way.

As far as I'm concerned, the VICTIM of the JOKE has the final say on how funny or NOT FUNNY the joke is.

Ang daling sabihin "Oh it's JUST a rape joke, get over it..." as long as it's not about OUR RAPE right?

Rape JOKES - in ANY context - are wrong. Or maybe we should ask rape victims if they think rape jokes are funny, if the "context" is correct or if the comedian's delivery is good.

What really bothers me is when people say that it's blown out of proportion. Kung sa akin, sa kapatid ko, sa kaibigan, pamangkin, anak, or anyone na malapit sa akin nya ginawa yung joke na yun. Manghihiram sya ng mukha sa aso!

^Kaya nga di ba? It just happened na magkalabang station to so people will conclude it's network war pero kapag sa mga malapit sa atin yan ginagawa, we will do the same. Bottomline is ang object ng joke ay na-offend. So kapag na-offend ang ginawang joke, hindi na yun joke. So people can't say Jessica should get over it because it's just a joke. We can't say that it Vice's job, eh na-offend nga eh.

Wake up call din ito kay Vice. Take this as a challenge. Kaya nya ba talagang magsulat or gumawa ng jokes na hindi nakakainsulto? Tutal sabi nya matalino sya eh di ba? Prove it then!

Whether the rape joke was not the main subject of Vice Ganda's joke then kahit saan mong anggulo isipin o pakinggan it is still offensive lalo na Vice use the term "Gang Rape" pa diba it is more on nakakaharas na yun? In a sense na iba't ibang lalaki at marami sila ang gumagawa nun kaya nga it is called Gang Rape. May mga nakaranas na niyan as in ganyan mismo at napakasakit na damage yun sa dignidad ng babae in other terms this is one of the most traumatic, obvious naman sa reports na nagkakaroon nyan.

Sa apology naman ni Vice ayoko rin yung ibang statement niya lalo na yung sinabi niya na yun ay isang joke po lamang. Alam naman natin na he is joking pero hindi excuse yun that people won't react more so alam naman natin na yung mga sinasabi niya ay hindi nangyari sa taong tinutukoy niya pero parang in a way cursing ang joke niya especially being gang rape kahit na hindi niya sinasadyang sabihin yun. Or any statement whether joke or not basta something to do with physical contact or intimacy hindi na dapat ito minemention pa. Tapos yung sinabi niya na something that yung mga nakapanood lang ng concert ang nakakaintindi sa jokes niya. Well kahit na there are strong words na hindi dapat talaga minemention.
