i think divorce should be legalized in the philippines. legalizing it does not mean we want couples to end their relationships immediately or that we do not value the sanctity of marriage. i think its only fair for couples who realize their differences to be able to find a partner that's really suited for them. i see no use in trying to stay together and not being able to function the way normal couples should.

if there are children involved, then it should be thought out carefully. if at the end of the day they feel they really cannot settle their differences, then parents who file for divorce should set the proper expectations and communicate with their children. its better to have both parents separate than try to stay as a family and be dysfunctional. i think thats more destructive that divorce itself.

i agree with this. if ever divorce would be legalized, the married couple should be provided with all other options first (i.e. counseling, etc.) before deciding to file for divorce.

the downside of legalizing divorced though, would be that the couples may want to have the "easy way out" instead of resolving their conflicts & differences.  :)

^ Yan ang mahirap. Kumbaga, gagawin lang trial and error ang Marriage which is supposed to be sacred. Konting away lang, gusto na ng divorce. That's what's happening nowadays. I know lots of people who are separated already. That's sad! :(

^what you are saying is the "ideal" thing... but this is reality...

^ i don't know much about marriages but i agree with you that there are some people who do not take their marriages as seriously as expected of them. but it's not because divorce is legal. these people are doing the exact same thing you are saying: they get into it without thinking about it that much and then when it doesn't suit their idea of a great life, they leave even without divorce. it's happening in The Philippines as we speak. and come to think of it, being physically present does not even make a marriage sometimes. i've seen couples staying together, fighting (and it's not your typical fighting- sometimes you worry that they might end up killing each other talaga), cheating on each other, neglecting their children. it's all happening, all that jazz is going on even without divorce.

point is, people will be major brats in their relationships whether or not divorce is legalized. we can not ask people why the hell they got married in the first place. we are not all wired the same when it comes to what relationships and marriages are all about. we have different reasons for getting married or otherwise. having divorce ensures that you get your due if you happen to get married to someone who can not love you enough to stick it out.

Divorce should be legalized in the Phils.  I cannot justify a piece of paper as a reason for staying in a marriage, especially if there are more reasons to leave than to stay.

im pro. id like to give my parents a break. if they dont love each other anymore just move on and be happy with someone else that they will meet. they deserve happiness as well.
it's unfair to let two people to be forced and then suffer for the rest of their lives just because of a simple mistake. people change! and people make mistakes.

just dont forget their duties as a mom and dad when they do get divorced.

Maybe we have been influenced by local and foreign showbiz people, that many marriage relationships lasts a few years, a few months sometimes a few hours...It's like a disposable thing!

On the other hand, extreme situations may need extreme solutions like divorce or simply separation... single parents abound nowadays but still with flying colors

YES, by all means legalize it. So overdue already!

Why stay in a bad marriage?  Usually, the men just up and leave;  the wives keep the marriage going.  Why?  Mainly because they have difficulties moving out of the marriage,  generally for financial reasons.  With divorce, as in the US,  the husband continues to support the financial needs of his family.  The financial support is reasonable/feasible.

Here, we have so much hypocrisy!  If you can afford a mistress and a 2nd family,  you should be able to afford to support your 1st family.

Divorce enables couples to dissolve an unhappy, untenable relationship in an orderly manner so that both can move on.

^LOL

yes to divorce! but we also have to strengthen the concept of family and marriage para hindi marami ang nauuwi sa hiwalayan tulad ng nangyayari ngayon. yun naman yata ang kinakatakot ng karamihan ng against sa divorce, bukod sa hindi pinapayagan ito ng Church.

i'm okay with divorce if the grounds are at least one of the following
* addiction (to any kind: alcohol, drugs, sex, videogames  :D)
* abandonment (tipong at least seven years--kagaya ng declaring death if the body is not found)
* spousal abuse (physical/verbal/sexual), hindi counted emotional kasi mahirap iquantify yun)
* child abuse (sexual/physical)
* mental illness like schizo, bipolar, multiple personality (hindi counted psychological incapacity kasi generic term lang yan)

iisipin ko pa kung isasama ko sa grounds yung infidelity pero malamang.  ;D

if none of the above, i think the proceeding for divorce should be extremely expensive and long. dapat may mga interventions munang dapat gawin ang mag-asawa bago umabot sa divorce like counseling, psychological chuva, trial separations, and all that jazz. the couple should literally exhaust all options before divorcing. and dapat may certification from authorities/experts na na-exhaust nila lahat ng options kaya divorce ang last resort. pag hindi pa nagagawa lahat, hindi puwedeng magfile ng divorce. the process should be so expensive and so long that it's a much better option to work things out.  ;D

in the same manner na dapat mas strict ang church and civil laws sa mga gusto magpakasal. dapat mahabang proseso din para mapag-isipang mabuti kung gusto nga ba ng couple na magpakasal. bawal dapat ikasal dahil sa grounds na nabuntis lang.

hindi puwede divorce kung ang grounds ay:
* irreconcilable differences (duh! kahit magulang mo, may irreconcilable differences kayo although puwede sila i-emancipate. ;D)
* falling out of love (this is not high school)
* didn't work out
* and some other mababaw reasons na ang bottom line is they look on divorce as an easy way out

Divorce should be legalized. Why? There are numerous married men and women nowadays who establish relationships with others because there came a point in their lives when they got bored with their marriage partner that they sought happiness somewhere else. So why stay in a marriage you no longer want to be in?

Divorce will also enable women who are being cheated or abused by their husbands the option to leave them and find happiness elsewhere. This will also enable men nagged by their insecure and suspicious wives to find another partner with a complete opposite personality. So why put up with all these issues when there's a solution?

Working out problems in a marriage is a great thing to do, but IT ALWAYS DOESN'T WORK. There are just married people out there who realize that they are not compatible with each other later in life.

YES! dapat na ilegalize ang Divorce... Let's face it matagal nang bumababa ang family values sa Pilipinas and I dont think makakaapekto ito kung ilelegalize ang divorce. Kawawa naman yung mga hindi manalo sa annulment cases nila and would want to move on with their lives separately. Not because legal na ang divorce e lahat mag didivorce na.... :)
