We've all got a secret: We have that one (sana not more but we don't judge) pair of shoes that stinks. No reason to be ashamed though, because this normally happens when sweat gets trapped in between our feet and shoes. The moisture, plus the dead skin we shed, produces bacteria that triggers the funky odor. To keep your favorite footwear smelling fresh and clean, try these household hacks:
1. Clean with baby wipes
After taking off your shoes, you can use baby wipes to rid the insoles of dirt and sweat. Pat dry with tissue before storing them.
2. Freshen up with tea bags
Tea bags can absorb moisture, and the tea leaves help neutralize the smell.
3. Kill the odor with baking soda
Baking soda is known for its odor-killing properties. Use an old pantyhose and cut the legs off to create a pouch. Fill with a teaspoon of baking soda, and leave the pouch in your shoes after each wear.
