ABS-CBN artist Coleen Garcia has launched her very own swimwear brand called Mrs. Sea.
To give her Instagram followers a sneak preview, the Kapamilya actress and two of her friends, Lyn Martinez and Lizzie Lecaroz, wore some pieces during her bridal shower in Hawaii in February.
In an interview with PEP.ph, the Star Magic talent said, "Online-based muna siya pero we're targeting international shipping also. So we're gonna try to sell this worldwide, hindi lang sa Pilipinas."
It's her business venture with BFF Christiana Collings-Canlas, which explains the reason behind the name. Coleen said, "We called it Mrs. Sea 'cause, you know, of the sea, the beach.
"Both of us have the love for the sea and we both thought na mag-start ng own bikini line kasi ang hirap din makahanap ng magagandang bikinis dito sa Philippines na mura." Coleen assured that their bikinis are "not premium" in terms of price, "but it's quality pa rin."
Aside from the sea, their brand's name was also inspired by their surnames.
The Sin Island actress revealed, "It's (also) because my friend and I are both Mrs. C's." Coleeen wed Billy Crawford in Balesin on April 20.
The two ladies were very hands-on with the design process of their bikini line.
She recalled, "I was very meticulous throughout the whole process. Talagang nakailang balik kami para lang ma-perfect 'yung design, so I really took my time with designing all of it."
When asked if she studied fashion design, Coleen said her passion and instinct just led her to creating a swimwear brand that's appealing to beach lovers like her.
Coleen noted, "I feel like nowadays you don't need formal courses for everything because knowledge is within reach already. Nasa sipag na lang siya, e. Kung masipag ka to learn, you will learn and you will find ways to learn. The internet is open to everyone, and there are so many resources available to all of us today."
Do they have plans of including a plus-size line?
She told PEP.ph, "We plan on expanding on plus-size soon, inaaral ko lang kung ano ang mga bagay na designs. Because, of course, I want to give every woman something she could be comfortable in. So, you know, aaralin namin kung ano yung mga bagay na designs per body type."
