To many of us, what comes to mind first when it comes to pasalubong shopping at Duty Free Fiestamall are commercially-made candies and chocolates, imported grocery items, and liquor. Other things such as fashion, clothing, and accessories should be bought elsewhere.

The latest venture of Duty Free Philippines to update its flagship mall surprised us beyond our wildest expectations. What used to be dimly lit hallways and aisles have been replaced with bright and shiny new interiors, and the mall’s various sections have been updated with the latest brands they now carry, presented in a very contemporary and premium fashion. It felt more like a high-end mall than the Duty Free we used to know. While there is a sense of nostalgia remembering our giddy selves in the mall’s prior setting, everything we saw in the present were more than welcome to us.

Here now are 10 standout things available for travelers and balikbayans that will surely grab for their loved ones:

1. Coccinelle

As the Coccinelle website goes, the fine, colourful furs, special details, and creativity create their impeccably organized bags. As women, we simply think Coccinelle bags are delicious, and are a definitive luxury to carry on every occasion.

2. Fabbrica Pelletiere Milano

Fabbrica Pelletiere Milano is a leather goods brand founded in Italy as far back as 1946. Now with a renewed and modern way to better interpret the craftsmanship of Italians, the dynamic, global, open-minded, and fluid design of their suitcases, trolleys, and travel bags has made it a sought-after brand in the world of jetsetting.

3. Coach

Coach purses and handbags are the definitive effortless New York style. You can bet that there is a friend of yours who likes Coach. So does her friend and so on!

4. Michael Kors

The newest area at the updated Duty Free Fiestamall is probably the appropriately-named Time Square, where we were amazed at the selection of timepieces and wristwatch brands they now carry. The space was luxurious, you would totally forget about invading a watch boutique at the mall instead! Michael Kors, of course, is an obvious selection for us since it’s a name that makes our eyes light up.

5. Armani Exchange

Also part of the latest selection available at Duty Free Fiestamall are Armani Exchange watches. Now that's a classic timepiece worth giving.

6. Godiva Chocolatier

The decadence and lusciousness of Godiva Chocolatier’s truffles are the perfect premium feel-good gifts (to significant others, relatives, friends, and even yourself) now that the holidays are coming.

7. See’s Candies

The assortment of chocolate bon bon from See’s Candies is equally mouth-watering, and let’s face it, chocolates are one of the favorite pasalubongs among us Pinoys. You can never miss the mark by gifting someone with a box of chocolates.

8. Ben & Jerry’s

We can say two things about Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream: one, that they are simply euphoric; and two, it is not everyday that you can come across these tubs of heaven. So on your next visit to DFP Fiestamall, make sure to nudge your balikbayan loved one towards getting them!

9. Johnnie Walker

For the loving daughters and wives out there, be thoughtful towards your dads and husbands with Johnnie Walker. You know how they love keeping these bottles in a glass cabinet, rarely to ever drink from them? The Spice Road, for example – available in the Philippines only at DFP Fiestamall – will surely make them feel the love.

10. The Macallan

Or if you’d like your dad or hubby to try out something new, the collection of the Macallan single malt whiskeys at DFP Fiestamall are sublime! Exclusive to travel retail, the 1824 collection of Select Oak, Whisky Maker’s Edition, Estate Reserve, Oscuro, and Limited Release MMXII will put just as wide a smile on your main main's face.

There are a lot more items to list down here, but the upgrade that Duty Free Philippines has done to Fiestamall indicate both their commitment to cater to the evolving taste of Filipinos and to modernize their heritage of bringing families together upon arrival. We sincerely hope that you have a loved one coming home soon so you get to see the remarkable transformation of our favorite pasalubong shopping destination for yourself.
