When was the last time you finished a tube of lipstick? Yes, the entire thing. Whatever your answer is, here's something that might make you think twice the next time you're about to toss out those used lippies.

While we usually think of throwing out a lipstick as soon as it goes flat in the tube, makeup artists do something entirely different and way more economical. Jyka Espinoza shared her trick on Instagram Stories, where she demonstrated how to scoop out all the rouge from a seemingly empty bullet.

See how much product was left in the tube? That'll have you thinking twice about throwing out a used lippie!

According to Jyka, she transfers the remaining product into empty lip palettes. This process is better known in the beauty world as depotting. "As a makeup artist, I carry all sorts of makeup with me for every job, and as much as possible, I try to reduce what I carry [by maximizing] the space in my kits," she explains.

Depotting is a huge part of downsizing kits for MUAs since it saves them from carrying too many lipstick bullets. For Jyka, it helps her carry more than 40 lip colors all at once. More than that, it also makes it easier for her to see all the available colors for options. So convenient!

The makeup artist shares that there are two ways to depot your lipsticks: either with or without the use of heat. "Some people melt the lipsticks before putting it in the wells, but I've read reviews that it changes the consistency over time," she explains. "That's why I [prefer a] simpler way—cutting the lipstick [out of the bullet] and pressing it into the well until it looks nice and even. It can get very tedious and messy but you can always use a cotton bud to clean up the edges."

Even if you're not a professional makeup artist, depotting can still help you make the most out of your lip products! You can use up your favorite shade without wasting anything from the bullet, and doing this will also allow you to toss out empty tubes and save some storage space on your dresser.
