Hairstyling usually means spraying your locks with a vast cocktail of products. There's heat protectant spray, volumizing spray, texture spray—you catch the drift. But as effective (and necessary) as those products are, hair prep actually starts the moment you wash your hair.
Celebrity hairstylist John Valle, who's responsible for the gorgeous tresses of Kathryn Bernardo, Julia Barretto, and Erich Gonzales, has one standard request for his clients before they sit in his styling chair: to wash with conditioner.
According to him, well-conditioned hair gives him a soft and shiny canvas to work on, making it so much easier to style. Especially if you're going for a sleek hairstyle like this one he recently did on Kira Balinger, treating your hair to a moisture boost before styling will help you achieve a more polished look.
But what if your hair is fine or oily? We ask John, should you still use conditioner? Definitely! He does note, however, that these hair types should use it sparingly and rinse very well after. This way, you'll get the benefits of the product without having to deal with greasy hair. Besides, John adds, as long as you use good finishing products like hairspray, your hairstyle (curls included) will have no problem lasting all day.
As for the conditioner, John personally recommends Cream Silk's Triple Keratin Rescue to all his clients, celebrity or not. It comes in two variants: Ultimate Straight and Ultimate Repair & Shine, both of which have thrice the keratin content than your average conditioner to tame frizz and revive damaged hair. Try it the next time you style your hair and see the difference!
