Cosmo.ph beauty editor Ira Nopuente shares her home remedy to getting rid of angry breakouts.
I've had a huge pimple on my chin since December. Usually, I would go to the clinic to get a pimple injection. But since it slipped my mind, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I've been introduced to different zit-zappers and been writing about acne-fighting products, so this DIY route should be easy. Read on to see what I did:
First, I tried a spot treatment with salicylic acid. The next day, the big red pimple showed pus. The product "purged" the infection that was hiding beneath the bump, speeding up the healing process. I thought, "Okay, so it's officially a cystic acne breakout." I also washed using a calming, sulfate-free cleanser and a PHA-based toner (a mild exfoliating acid product). I didn't want to apply anything too harsh that may aggravate the current situation.
TRY: Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Wash 200ml, P1,825, KIEHL'S, Lazada
TRY: Get Bright Pore Toner, P150, HELLO GLOW, Hello Glow Official Shopee Store
TRY: Blemish Rescue Oil with Tamanu And Salicylic Acid 15ml, P2,840, VOTARY, Sephora
I panicked when I saw it was infected so I decided to place a pimple sticker over it. I left it overnight and I was surprised that it lifted the gross, yellow gunk-the pus! I then gave my usual spot treatments a break and just turned to these colloid patches for five more days until the zit (almost) disappeared.
The once huge cystic acne is now a smaller red spot. Looks like I now have a go-to home remedy to get rid of angry breakouts.
(Ed's note: It's always better to consult a dermatologist to treat cystic acne.)
