Are your locks limp and lifeless? You’re not the only woman who has that problem. Is there anything we can do to make our hair look alive again? Herbert Dizon, senior stylist at Azta Urban Salon, gives us these tips:
1. Get your hair trimmed once in a while.
Split ends will be the death of your hair. To keep your locks healthy, have them trimmed regularly. If you’re growing your hair out, you’ll be glad to know that even having it cut half an inch is enough to put an end to split ends.
2. Massage your scalp after your bath.
Give your hair a chance to shine. After taking a bath, massage your scalp gently. “Para nailalabas niya ‘yung natural oil ng hair. Kahit na bago siya matuyo, napupunta na siya sa strand (So that the scalp can release the natural oil to the strands before the hair dries),” explains Herbert.
3. Get treatments once or twice a month.
Bring your hair back to life by scheduling a hair pampering session at your favorite salon once or twice a month. “Once a month, okay lang, that’s normal, pero if you want to see the [recovery] talaga ng hair mo, kahit twice a month,” advises the senior stylist.
4. Layer on hair protective products.
Blow dryers and curling irons have been known to cause damage to the hair, but if you love your heat-styling tools too much, at least put on some hair protect. According to Herbert, serums and leave-on conditioners do a fabulous job of keeping your hair safe.
5. Eat protein-rich foods.
Eating protein-rich foods like eggs may save your hair from looking drab. “Once na kumakain tayo more on protein, ‘yung hair natin nagiging healthy (Once we eat more protein, our hair becomes healthy),” says Herbert.
