You use serums and moisturizers to stop your skin from aging, but did you know that the way you apply makeup can also age you? We round up the common makeup mistakes that make us look older, and the tricks you can do to make your skin appear more youthful.
1. Wearing too much foundation
When you apply thick layers of foundation, your skin ends up looking like a mask. You’ll only emphasize the flaws you originally intended to hide. Avoid this by building your base one thin layer at a time and spot-concealing blemishes instead.
2. Using too much powder
A cakey complexion magnifies fine lines and wrinkles. To properly set your foundation and concealer, let them melt on your skin for a few minutes before dusting on a finely-milled translucent powder.
3. Not defining the brows
Fuller, softer brows signify youthfulness. Fill in your arches by drawing feathery-strokes for it to look naturally lush.
4. Neglecting the lash curler
Straight eyelashes cause your eyes to droop and look tired. To make them look more lively, pump up the lashes by curling them and wiggling on at least two coats of mascara.
5. Using too much shimmer
A bit of gleam on the center of the lids brightens your eyes, but placing shimmer near the outer corners will highlight crow's feet. Prevent this by using matte eye shadow to define the crease and outer corners instead.
6. Brushing your blush on too low
The rosy hue must be applied on the apples of your cheeks to lift the face. The best technique to bring out the apples is to smile while applying blush. Our tip: Use cream blushes—they are best at bestowing a youthful glow.
7. Applying lipstick on naked lips
Maximize your lipstick’s color and texture by prepping your lips with a lip balm or lip primer. Doing this will fill in the lines and moisturize your pout.
