Kids are naturally inquisitive—a trait that, while endearing, can also lead to uncomfortable situations for parents. And as much as we want our children to remain informed, there are some issues we might like to prevent them knowing about, at least until they've reached a certain age and level of maturity. Unfortunately, kids often have more access to media than we realize, including a tool earlier generations didn't have: the Internet. Twitter, Google, Facebook, and the like are everyday realities, which is why keeping our children in the dark is becoming an increasingly difficult task.

But is preventing them from accessing such information the right thing to do? It may be better to help them understand the issues the see and hear about, but this has to be done with a delicacy and insight that may be difficult to achieve.
