The latest movie of John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo, It Takes a Man and a Woman, had already raked in P267 million as of April 9 after being in cinemas for around a week. It has already surpassed the earnings of its predecessors, 2008’s A Very Special Love, which earned P179.5 million, and 2009’s You Changed My Life, which gathered P225.2 million. The movie’s impressive figures have also prompted showbiz pundits to speculate that It Takes a Man and a Woman might be able to beat 2012’s Metro Manila Film Festival entry Sisterakas, which currently holds the record for the highest-grossing Filipino movie.
With this is mind, would it be possible for the much-loved John Lloyd-Sarah tandem to have a fourth sequel?
“Hindi ko alam, e (I don’t know),” John Lloyd Cruz was quoted by PEP.ph as saying during the movie’s private screening on April 8. “If we could come up with better script than this one, I don’t mind. Pero kung sa tingin ko medyo pilit na at weak na, siguro mas maganda kung i-end na natin dito (But if it would seem weak and forced, maybe it’s better if we end it here.).”
A fourth movie would most likely revolve around the marriage of the two stars’ characters, Miggy and Laida. However, Sarah said she would prefer that the movie to focus first on Miggy and Laida’s life as a married couple.
“Ako, maganda muna yung makita ng mga tao 'yung buhay mag-asawa nila, 'yung adjustments, paano nila malalagpasan (For me, it would be better for people to see their married life, the adjustments they make, and how they can overcome them),” the 24-year-old singer-actress said.
Director Cathy Garcia, however, said that the possibility of making a fourth movie will depend on the public.
“It’s all in the story naman. Kung mayroon pa kaming ikukuwento at gusto n’yo pa, pag-iisipan namin,” she said. “Parang ito pong part three, hirap na hirap kaming makaisip ng magugustuhan ng mga tao. Nakakatuwang isiping nanalo kami, I mean, natuwa ang audience. Kung magkakaroon man ng part four, gano’n ulit, magsusunog-kilay para makaisip ng magandang kwento (If we can still tell a story and if the public wants it, we’ll think about it. For the third movie, it was so hard for us to think of a story that the people will like. It’s nice to think that we won, I mean, the audience enjoyed it. If there will be a part four, it’ll be like that again, we’ll do our best to think of a great story.).”
