Daniel Matsunaga and Erich Gonzales' breakup was unexpected; they were everyone's favorite couple in the two years they were together.
They seemed to be the perfect couple, until Erich deleted all traces of Daniel on her Instagram and made her profile private. Finally, she confirmed the split in an ABS-CBN interview saying, "I just really want to move on."

In the same interview, Erich was asked about whether the breakup had anything to do with money issues, to which Erich replied that she didn't want to discuss any more details.
In a report by PEP.ph, it seems Vanessa Matsunaga, Daniel's sister, asked Erich to clear the rumors regarding money problems via Instagram comments. Since then, Erich has deactivated her comments section, but PEP was able to grab a screenshot of the comment. Here's what Vanessa's message said:
"Hi Erika, how are you? I'm really sorry to send you this message. Daniel asked our family, friends and fans to keep quiet and not fight back or even reply to any comments, but the truth is I can't keep quiet when people are invading my privacy asking us if we owe you money and saying that you were spending on us! I can't believe this is even happening. How can people even speculate about this right?"
She also said that both her and Daniel don't owe anyone an explanation but she's hoping that Erich clarifies the rumors since it's hurting the Matsunaga family.
"Remember, you were with us for two years, you were included in every family plan, trips, weddings. We took care of you and your family and took in consideration your preferences and watched over you. I’m not here to measure what we did for each other because this is love and it comes with it naturally. All I'm saying is I'm very sad to see people defaming not only you and my brother but also my mom and family. You know my mom and she definitely doesn't deserve this. As a matter of fact, we are still defending you from all the hate as much as we can. We all love you to the best of our abilities and with all our hearts."
