Some have speculated that Sunshine Cruz’s separation from husband Cesar Montano may be a blessing in disguise, as it was the catalyst that revived her showbiz career. However, Sunshine says she learned a different lesson from the ordeal.

“Separation is always… not happy. Malungkot ‘yan, e. Siyempre kasi merong mga bata na naaapektuhan. Merong pamilya na nasisira (It’s sad. Of course, because there are children who are affected. There are families getting torn apart.),” she was quoted as saying in an article on PEP.ph. “Pero, whatever it is, sabi ko nga, good or bad, I can honestly say na it made me a better person (But like I said, whatever it is, good or bad, I can honestly say that it made me a better person.). It made me a stronger person.”

Sunshine also shared that she and Cesar have remained friends despite everything that happened between the two of them. According to the actress, Cesar has remained a loving and supportive father to their children.

“In all fairness to Buboy [Cesar's nickname], pag may shooting ako… 'yung mga bata, sa kanya natulog. Basta ‘pag may work ako, nasa kanya 'yung kids. Hinahayaan ko,” She said. “Kasi si Buboy naman, mapagmahal ‘yan and very generous sa mga kids. So, kagaya ng sinasabi ko lagi, I have no right na ilayo ang mga anak ko sa kanya, kasi mapagmahal siyang ama (In all fairness to Buboy, our children sleep at his house whenever I’m shooting. The kids stay with him when I have to go to work. Buboy is very loving and very generous to our kids. So, like I always say, I have no right to take our children away from him because he’s a loving father.).”
