solenn.jpgActress-model Solenn Heussaff felt insulted after being labeled a bimbo by a French TV channel, reports PEP.ph. Stories of Gangsters, Drug Lords, and Bimbos, a documentary on France's Channel M6, included footage of her and her friends in the Philippines.

Solenn felt especially offended as it was her father who helped the French TV crew get the necessary footage of her by organizing a trip to Boracay. “They made my friends and I sound like spoiled brats and uneducated, and made us look like we don’t work and all we do is live the lifestyle,” she told PEP.ph through a text from her manager, Leo Dominguez. “All my friends are very well educated, respected, self-accomplished, down-to-earth, and successful women. I'm very offended by their editing.” Among the friends allegedly shown in the documentary were Anne Curtis and Ruffa Gutierrez.

Instances of deception are not limited to the world of showbiz. Every industry has its share of manipulative individuals, especially in business. Before you close a deal or invest in a new business, read our tips to make sure you’re not financing something that can hurt more than help your livelihood.

Do you have any experiences of business ventures gone wrong? What do you think about this documentary's representation of Solenn despite the assistance her father gave the crew? Tell us in a comment!

1. DO YOUR RESEARCH.

Never take anything at face value. Just because a potential business associate can talk the talk, that doesn’t mean that he can walk the walk--that what he’s saying is right. What might sound like a sweet deal to you now could leave you in despair later if you don’t do proper background research. Ask yourself how you got to know this person and how much you know about the business you’re investing in. Move forward only when you have all the facts.

2. LEARN ABOUT THE FIELD.

The less you know about business, the more prone you will be to falling for a hoax or a poor venture. Before you venture into the fray, consider taking relevant classes and reading up on the subject. Start by reading a few business articles in magazines or by learning the jargon. That way, you’ll be armed with information the next time someone comes to you with a proposition.

3. ASK TRUSTED SOURCES AND INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS FOR ADVICE BEFORE COMMITTING.

Talk to the professionals.
If you’re unsure of your business partner’s credentials, the best way to find out is by consulting trusted sources in the industry. If he has a history of swindling people and conducting shady business deals, there will be people who know about it and paper trails that evidence this past behavior.

4. TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS.

If you feel that something isn’t right, that's your signal to dig deeper. Don’t let your excitement cloud your judgment. Always be aware of your surroundings and look at context clues. Pulling out of a business deal in its early stages is better than regretting it later if it all proves to be a sham.

5. LEARN TO SAY NO.

If the third party keeps pressuring to make decisions before you’re ready, just say no and walk away. Remember that you are not obligated to commit. In the end, the choice is still yours. If you don’t want to invest in his project or engage in a deal with him, you shouldn't give in, no matter how convincing him he may be.
