Despite reports of his engagement to Miss Universe 2006 Zuleyka Rivera Mendoza, it seems that Yilmaz Bektas has been trying to mend fences with estranged wife Ruffa Gutierrez.
According to this article in The Philippine Star, Bektas, who is father to Gutierrez’s two daughters, Lorin and Venice, recently sent the actress several text messages declaring his intention to win her back.
One message allegedly reads: “I’m gonna get you back, Mrs. Bektas... I am not going to let you go! I started a life with you, will finish with you. You are my soulmate.”
Another offers her another baby and a life in Spain with a “real family.”
As this Spot.PH article reminds us, it’s been a scant three years since the separation, in which Gutierrez claimed to have suffered abuse at the hands of her husband—although a statement was later released by Gutierrez claiming cultural differences and an amicable separation (which Bektas countered by claiming that her career left little time for family).
The Philippine Star reports that Gutierrez is “titillated” by Bektas’s messages; her reaction was encapsulated in one word: “Grabe!!!”
Is Ruffa falling into the trap most abused women face? Ruffa may have retracted her accusations, but this is often a textbook reaction that abused women resort to as part of the cycle of domestic violence. Though she may find the attention titillating now, will she regret it in the future? Or is she just asking for it by even considering reviving their ill-fated relationship? Whether this bodes well or ill for Bektas's bid for reconciliation, only time will tell.
