Ever heard of second lead syndrome? In the K-drama world, it happens when you become hooked to the second lead oppa’s storyline and even root for him in the event of a love triangle. Below are K-dramas with notable second male leads who caught our attention.
[Warning: Spoilers ahead!]
As much as we love Gong Yoo, we can’t help but feel invested in Lee Dong Wook too! He had a likeable character as the Grim Reaper. His funny arguments with Kim Shin (Gong Yoo) were entertaining to watch. And let’s admit it: The Grim Reaper and Sunny (Yoo In Na)’s love story made us laugh and cry a bunch of times. We loved their chemistry!
Behind his bad boy reputation, Choi Young Do (Kim Woo Bin) proved that he could be nice and vulnerable especially to Cha Eun Sang (Park Shin Hye). Even though they didn’t end up together, we’re still happy we got to see Choi Young Do’s character development in the series.
Crash Landing on You
CLOY fans would have to agree that Gu Seung Joon (Kim Jung Hyun) deserved a better ending! At first, we all thought he was going to be a threat to Yoon Se Ri (Son Ye Jin) and Captain Ri Jeong Hyeok (Hyun Bin)’s romance. But as the story progressed, he became a real friend and even showed his soft side to Seo Dan (Seo Ji Hye). Here’s to hoping they get their own K-drama!
Strong Woman Do Bong Soon
If we’re talking about K-drama guy friends, no one compares to In Kook Doo (Ji Soo) in Strong Woman Do Bong Soon. He was always there for Do Bong Soon (Park Bo Young) without realizing that he was already falling in love with her until it was too late. Honestly, we’re still torn between him and lead Ahn Min Hyuk (Park Hyung Sik)!
Because of Reply 1988, we got to meet the reserved yet caring Kim Jung Hwan (Ryu Jun Yeol). He could have ended up with childhood friend Sung Deok Sun (Lee Hyeri) but he chose to give way to their other friend Choi Taek (Park Bo Gum). It was devastating but we can take comfort in the fact that Ryu Jun Yeol and Lee Hyeri are dating in real life.
