sarah_g.jpgAt the recently concluded 23rd Aliw Awards, PEP.ph reports that pop superstar Sarah Geronimo snagged the much coveted Entertainer of the Year title. In an interview after the event, media asked her about the reasons behind the early demise of her TV musical series IDOL, which is due to end this week. Sarah cited schedule conflicts and short pre-launch preparation time as some of the factors that contributed to the show’s early finish.

When asked whether reports on IDOL’s low ratings were true, Sarah gave an honest answer: “Yes. Siyempre nalulungkot [akong] malaman na mababa nga yung ratings pero may dahilan…may dahilan naman sa lahat ng bagay kung bakit ganon ang pagtanggap ng tao.” Still, the actress-singer expressed her gratitude to the show’s supporters.

Like Sarah, have you recently experienced a huge setback? Before you start thinking that the world is against you, take a step back and calm your frazzled nerves. In life, failures are just as important as successes.  Find out how to bounce back from disappointing circumstances with these tips from FN.

1. PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE

The recipe to success is not set in stone. Hard work, the right connections, and talent are all just a part of it. Having them all doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have a guaranteed path to victory. As they say, pana-panahon lang yan. There will always be other chances but you can’t put your best foot forward if you start wallowing in despair, so keep your head up, take a deep breath and be patient.

2. POSITIVITY

You may raise an eyebrow when your friend tells you just keep smiling even though you’re obviously unhappy, but there is some truth to the power of positivity. If you keep believing in yourself and don’t give up, you have a better chance of making it whatever circumstances you’re given. So turn that frown upside down and put your game face on. It’s not over yet!

3. YOU’RE NOT ALONE

Society and a strong sense of family make us fear failure. Remember, though, that failure isn’t your enemy. It doesn’t make you less of a person if you fall short of expectations especially since everyone experiences it. The best way to cope with it is to take it in stride, learn what you can from it, and try harder next time.

4. TAKE A BREAK

Determination is a good thing to have, but don’t forget to cut yourself some slack. Sometimes, it’s good to relax and re-energize before getting back into the game. Recharge your batteries and in the meantime, focus on the things that make you happy. Try something new. Who knows? It might even help you in the long run.

5. KNOW WHEN TO GIVE UP

Knowing when to let go is just as important as knowing when to strive harder. There’s no sense in beating a dead horse. Take a moment to reflect and acknowledge your failure. It will make you stronger and prepare you for the next opportunity that comes knocking on your door.
