On February 3, 1:39 p.m., Gerardo “Mang Gerry” Velasquez, father of Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez, passed away due to heart failure, reports PEP.ph.
The singer confirmed the news herself by posting a photo on her Instagram account with the caption, “The leader of the band, Mang Gerry, joined his creator 1:39pm today. Thank you for praying for him during all these time that he has been fighting for his life. God bless you all.”
Earlier in the day, Regine was still able to attend her Voices of Love concert presscon, although she was late because of an emergency—her father needed to be rushed to the hospital. According to Regine, however, her father had a schedule appointment with the doctor anyway.
After the press con, PEP.ph reports seeing Regine talking on the phone before leaving the premises in a hurry. Husband singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid reportedly canceled rehearsals for his Valentine concert and will most likely not show up for his scheduled TV5 taping either.
