Regine Velasquez only found out about former flame Aga Muhlach’s intent to run for congress in 2013 through news reports, but she nevertheless expressed her support for the veteran actor’s decision.

“Hindi ko nga siya tinanong,” she was quoted as saying in an article by PEP.ph. “Ibang tao pa ang tinanong ko: ‘Totoo ba na papasok siya?’ Tapos nung nag-usap na kami, sabi ko, 'Basta kung kailangan mo ako, suportahan kita (I didn’t ask him. I asked somebody else to confirm if he's really running for congress. Then when we got to talk, and I told him, ‘Whenever you need me, I’ll support you.’).'"

Asia’s Songbird also said she saw Aga’s real desire to help his would-be constituents, and that she had warned him beforehand that politics is about being a servant for others. “Kasi sa akin, meron siyang desire to help people. Siguro 'yun talaga ang gusto niyang mangyari sa buhay niya, kaya susuportahan ko siya as my friend (I think he has a desire to help people. Maybe that’s what he really wants to do with his life, that’s why I’ll support him as he is my friend),” she said.

Aga is planning to run as congressman for the fourth district of Camarines Sur, a province in Bicol. Coincidentally, Aga and Regine are also in the middle of shooting their movie Of All The Things, which was partly shot in Bicol. The movie also deals with politics and the law. However, Regine believes that the movie's screening wouldn’t affect the results of the upcoming election.

“I don’t think na... hindi naman boboto ang tao sa pelikula, e. Hindi naman yun ang basehan. Nagkataon lang na yung pelikula namin, nasa world ng pulitika. Nagkataon lang talaga (I don’t think that… people won’t vote because of a movie. That's not the basis [for voting]. It just so happened that our movie was set in the world of politics. It was really just a coincidence.).”
