Regine Velasquez was supposed to celebrate her 25th anniversary in show business last November 16 with a concert that showcased her greatest songs. However, she caught a virus on the day of her show, rendering her unable to perform. Teary-eyed, she promised her loyal fans that she will restage her concert to show everyone how it’s supposed to be done.

Asia’s Songbird fulfilled her promise on January 5, giving her fans, who came in droves to the SM Mall of Asia Arena, a dazzling show. PEP.ph reports that the atmosphere that night was radically different from the first concert staged nearly two months ago.

Nagpapasalamat ako (I'm very thankful), I feel very, very blessed to be able to stage this show for all of you,” Regine said to welcome her fans. "Alam n’yo naman ang nangyari nung November, wag na nating balikan kasi 2013 na (You all know what happened last November, but let's not dwell on it because it's already 2013.). I learned a lesson last year. It’s not about me and it’s not even about you. It’s about glorifying God and this whole show we dedicate to You. Pasasalamatan ko kayong lahat from the bottom of my heart (I'll thank you all from the bottom of my heart.). Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

She then went on to perform some of her greatest songs, including “Shine,” “Narito Ako,” “Dadalhin Kita Sa Aking Palasyo,” and her trademark, “On the Wings of Love,” which she sang while soaring in the air on a harness.

Her guest performers were also given a chance to shine that night. Regine performed “Sirena” with Gloc-9 and “Magkasuyo Buong Gabi” with Janno Gibbs. Rachelle Ann Go, Jaya, and singing trio La Diva joined her in singing “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.” Comedians Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola made the night more fun by performing “Gangnam Style.” Her husband, Ogie Alcasid, likewise showed off his equally impressive vocals in their version of “Hanggang Ngayon.”

Regine also took the chance to reminisce about her humble beginnings during her concert. “27 years na ako in this business (I've been in this business for 27 years.). My father and my mother are celebrating this with me,” she said. "Ang daming amateur contests na sinalihan ko, hanggang sa narinig ako ni Ronnie Henares na kumanta 'ko. Tuwang-tuwa ako noon noong nagpunta kami sa Hong Kong, and si Nanette Medved binigyan ako ng 50 dollars (I joined a lot of amateur contests, until Ronnie Henares heard me. I was so happy when we went to Hong Kong, and Nanette Medved gave me 50 dollars.).”

After singing “Leader of the Band,” she tearfully expressed her gratitude to her parents. “I love you, Papa. I love you, Mama. I said earlier that this show is to glorify the Lord. Thank you, thank you, Lord, for being here tonight.”
