Miss Universe Philippines Rachel Peters is slaying in the 66th edition of the prestigious beauty pageant. The country's bet debuted her national costume during the preliminary stage over the weekend and it did not disappoint.
Rachel wowed the crowd with her golden ensemble, complete with Sarimanok-inspired features including a fowl headdress and wings that resembled the legendary creature.
On social media, the 26-year-old beauty queen shared some trivia about her costume, which was made by fashion designers Val Taguba and Jojo Bragais. “A modern twist of the legendary Sarimanok. A symbol of good fortune for the Maranao people,” she said.

Rachel is looking to follow in the footsteps of Pia Wurtzbach, who successfully brought an end to the country’s 42-year Miss Universe title drought in 2015.
The coronation night of the 2017 Miss Universe pageant will be held this November 27 at The AXIS Planet Hollywood resort and casino in Las Vegas.
