A month ago, we asked you to vote for the Filipina movie character who was able to inspire you the most. All the votes have been gathered, and we’re pleased to announce that Maricel Soriano’s touching portrayal of Norma in the movie Inang Yaya is the FNites’ pick for the crown, getting 29,652 out of the 54,089 total votes (54.82 percent)!

Inang Yaya tells the story of Norma, the yaya, of a spoiled little girl named Louise, whom she has cared for since birth. However, Norma has a daughter of her own named Ruby, who is being looked after by Norma’s mother, Tersing. When an emergency forces Ruby to live with her mother in the home of her employers, Norma’s affections are split between her own daughter and the child she is paid to care for.

Critics have touted Maricel’s performance in the movie as one of the Diamond Star’s best roles to date, and the film went on to be recognized by several award-giving bodies in the Philippines and abroad.
