Audiences all over the world were glued to their TV screens as the 83rd Academy Awards were held on Sunday night, February 27, at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California (Monday morning, February 28, Philippines). Fashion trends were set and faux pas raised eyebrows as celebrities made their way to the red carpet. A radiant Anne Hathaway and an unexpectedly funny James Franco gave the Oscars a fresh spin as the hosts of the event. The Oscars delivered this year, with favorites snagging two of the most anticipated awards of the evening. Natalie Portman (Black Swan) and Colin Firth (The King’s Speech), both top contenders to win their categories, snagged the Best Actress and Best Actor awards respectively. Pinoy pride made a surprise appearance as Luke Matheny’s God of Love won the Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film. Incidentally, the film was co-produced by Filipino-Americans Gigi Dement, Stefanie Walmsey, and Stephen Dypiancgo.
