aubrey_michelle.jpgSurvivor castaway Michelle Madrigal called out her fellow contestant Aubrey Miles on the latter's Twitter apology, saying that the gesture was insincere, PEP.ph reports. "Sa akin, feeling ko, hindi lang sincere ang pagso-sorry niya na yun," she says in the article. “Kasi, nag-sorry siya noong time na marami na siyang haters. So, parang feeling ko, hindi totoo ang pagso-sorry niya." Michelle believes she and Jon Hall, her co-conspirator in the show, became Aubrey’s targets because of personal reasons and not for the game. Jon Hall is Aubrey’s ex-boyfriend. Both he and Michelle have been booted off the island, while Aubrey is considered one of the top players.

"[N]ainis ako dahil sa mga sinabi niya na, yun nga, personal stuff. Tapos, ang sa akin lang, she said sorry... Nag-sorry siya sa Twitter. If seryoso ka, bakit hindi mo ako tawagan?” Michelle is quoted as saying. “Kasi, nagkikita tayo sa promo ng Survivor, puwede mo akong kausapin. Hilahin mo ako sa gilid, kausapin mo ako nang seryoso, di ba?”

Have you ever gotten an apology through Twitter? Would it have made you feel better if you'd received it in person instead? Before you make the same etiquette faux pas, read and learn apology etiquette with these tips from FN.

1. DON’T SAY YOU'RE SORRY UNTIL AND UNLESS YOU MEAN IT

Saying the words is easy, but only say them once you’re ready. If you say sorry quickly but insincerely, the person you’re apologizing to will be able to detect the lie in your tone. So don’t apologize just for the sake of it or just to get it over with. Wait for that moment when you can say it and mean it, even if it means time has to pass first.

2.    DO IT FACE TO FACE

Nothing spells insincerity like an apology done over a social network or through another person. It’s just like breaking up through text—the other party just ends up feeling cheated. It will appear like you don't care about the person you're apologizing to or, worse, that you're afraid to do it one on one. Own up to your mistake and make the effort to ask forgiveness face to face.

3.  NO EXCUSES! YOUR APOLOGY SHOULD NOT CONTAIN BUT, ALTHOUGH, ETC.

Apologies aren’t meant to be conditional. Admitting that you’re at fault often makes people feel vulnerable, but in reality this takes courage and makes you a stronger person. By adding a clause to your apology (“I was wrong but it was only because of…”), you’re basically saying you’re not to blame and that you’re only being contrite because you feel obligated to do so.

4.    MAKE AMENDS—DON’T JUST SAY YOU’RE SORRY, TRY TO RIGHT THE WRONG YOU DID

In the end, words are just words, no matter how sincere they are. Reinforce the strength of your apology by matching your statements with actions. One won’t work without the other. Don’t make any promises you can’t keep, and only do something nice if you really mean it. You may have made mistakes in the past but that doesn’t mean you can’t correct them. This apology is just the first step toward making your bond with your friend stronger.

5.    LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES—APOLOGIES STOP COUNTING WHEN YOU CONTINUE TO HURT PEOPLE IN THE SAME WAY

Your apology means nothing if, after everything that’s happened, you keep hurting your friend anyway. Learn from the past and move on to become an even better person than you already are! Constantly remind yourself about the reasons why you fought with your friend and keep them in mind whenever you feel like you’re about to make the same mistake.
