It appears things didn't go smoothly during the supposed civil wedding of Sarah Geronimo and Matteo Guidicelli on February 21, after the actor reportedly punched a bodyguard.
According to a report by CNN Philippines, the incident happened in the middle of the wedding rites, when Sarah's mom, Divine, unexpectedly arrived. "She apparently did not know about the wedding ceremony and wanted to talk to her daughter about it." Divine reportedly only learned about the wedding through the bodyguard.
Since announcing their engagement, there have been many rumors circulating online that Divine does not approve of Sarah's relationship with Matteo.
In a heartfelt post on Instagram in November 2019, Matteo apologized to Sarah's parents for any "hard feelings" that they might have had in the past.
He wrote, "Tito Delfin and Tita Divine, if there have been hard feelings or events that were not supposed to happen in the past, I humbly apologize. I assure you that I will give Sarah a happy life with the best of my capabilities. With pure, honest love and respect. We wish to move forward with our life plans and begin this brand new chapter of our life.
"Mahal na mahal ko po si Sarah. Mahal ko din po kayung magulang nya at mga kapatid nya. Hangad ko po na maging isang pamilya tayo. Pangako ko po na aalagan ko si Sarah na kapareho ng pangangalaga nyo sa kanya."
The couple announced their engagement in November 2019.
