Antoinette Jadaone's Love You to the Stars and Back starring Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto just hit cinemas last week. And if you haven't seen it yet, we are telling you, you shouldn't miss out on this gem! But to enjoy the film even more, here are a few things we learned from a chat with Direk Tonet (no spoilers ahead):

1. The movie's story started three years ago.

"'Yung story ng Love You to the Stars and Back, I was supposed to write this concept for Direk Paul Soriano three years ago. It's about a girl na naniniwala sa aliens, but TV and film got in the way kaya hindi ko siya nasulat. For the longest time, I was pitching it to different people but it's a very risky concept kasi 'yung aliens hindi ko alam kung kakagatin siya ng mga tao.

"Noong lumapit sa akin 'yung Star Cinema, sinabi nila na may movie with Joshua and Julia, 'yun 'yung pinitch ko kasi pasok sa age bracket nila. Sobrang natuwa ako na tinanggap siya ng Star Cinema for a movie about aliens."

2. Caloy's cancer story is not a "twist."

Feeling ko, if we're not going to show it in the trailer, mafi-feel ng audience na 'Parang naloko naman ako. Wala namang sinabing may cancer.'

So ganoon 'yung nilagay namin sa trailer. At natuwa kami kasi very risky 'yun. Even hours before ilabas 'yung trailer baka [isipin], 'Naku, may cancer, ayoko ng ganyan.'

3. Joshua and Julia are the perfect Caloy and Mika.

Nakakatuwa na this early, ganoon sila ka-sensitive, ka-sincere umarte. Natutuwa ako na nabigyan nila ng buhay sina Mika at Caloy the way I imagined them to be."

4. "Torete" was part of Direk Tonet's writing playlist.

"Sinuggest namin siya, kasi while I was writing the script, meron akong playlist.

5. Mika's chant has no meaning.

"Wala siyang meaning.
