Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2017 Best Picture Ang Larawan received one of the best compliments ever from Broadway star and Tony award-winning performer Lea Salonga. In a tweet dated December 29, Lea shared via her Twitter handle @MsLeaSalonga that after finding a “totally legit reviewer link,” she finally got to see the multi-awarded MMFF 2017 film entry, Ang Larawan.
Lea is currently in Broadway for a revival of Once on This Island.
Her reaction to Ang Larawan? “What a feast for the senses and the soul!”
Ang Larawan bagged a total of six awards at the MMFF Awards Night last December 27: Best Picture, Best Actress (for Joanna Ampil), a Special Jury (Posthumous) Award for Nick Joaquin, the Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award, Best Musical Score (for Ryan Cayabyab), and Best Production Design.
In particular, Lea raved about Paulo Avelino’s performance, saying, “If you’re a fan of #PauloAvelino, I urge you to watch his stellar performance in #AngLarawan. He doesn’t sing as well as the others, but his acting! He will be one of the greatest as he continues to grow!!! Congrats!!!”

Your work was absolutely riveting to watch. Without a doubt, you will be one of the greatest actors of your generation.”
Lea ended the note with, “From your fan, Lea Salonga.”
