One of last year’s biggest celebrity scandals involved the breakup of the marriage of reality TV star Kim Kardashian and basketball player Kris Humphries less than three months after they tied the knot. Rumors of a sham wedding raged, and Kim’s detractors called for her to return the gifts given at her wedding. Instead, Kim said she would be donating the money value of her wedding gifts (estimated at $100,000) to charity.
She recently made good on that promise--TMZ.com reports that she wrote out a check to the Dream Foundation for twice the amount estimated for the cost of her wedding gifts.
E! Online quotes the letter she sent to her wedding guests: "I would like to thank you for your generous and thoughtful wedding gift. It has taken me some time to pull everything together but I wanted to let you know that the money for every gift received by me at my wedding has been donated to the Dream Foundation; an organization that I am very passionate about."
The letter included a note from the Dream Foundation, saying that “Kim felt that this was the most fitting way to acknowledge and pay forward your gift with the same compassion and kindness it was intended.”
Kim has supported the Dream Foundation for several years now and recently auctioned off her used clothes on eBay, with a portion of the proceeds going to the charity. The foundation works to grant the final dreams of adults with life-threatening illnesses.
