Kim Chiu’s father, William Chiu Jr., has defended his daughter against the criticism she received after she left for Thailand during the wake of her mom, Louella Yap Chiu, who passed away on June 23.

In a report on ABS-CBNNews.com, Mr. Chiu had said that as much as Kim would like to stay in Cebu for to grieve, she really had to leave to shoot a commercial for one of her endorsements. The Kapamilya star will also reportedly try to convince the owners of the product she is endorsing to wrap up the shoot early so she can return to Cebu at once.

He also alleged that Kim immediately went to Cebu when she found out that her mother had fallen into a coma, disproving the recent post on a popular gossip blog about the actress’ reported cold treatment towards her family.

“She would arrive every dawn and return to Manila in the morning for work and back again here in Cebu,” he shared, adding that Kim would always talk to her mother, who was confined in the Intensive Care Unit. “Kim was her mother's favorite. It was painful for Kim.”

Kim’s love team partner, Xian Lim, also came to her rescue, echoing the actress’ pleas for respect and privacy.

“I just want to say na sana respeto lang towards Kim and her whole family, di ba? Kasi merong mga lumalabas na mga bali-balita (I just want to say that Kim and her whole family deserve respect, right? Because there are stories coming out)... I mean, it's not helping Kim in any way. It's not helping the situation,” he was quoted as saying in another article on ABS-CBNNews.com.
