While a lot of us turn to our moms for skincare wisdom, this wasn’t the case with KC Concepcion.
“She’s used the same makeup, remover, cleaner, for years and years and years,” the cover girl of Women’s Health’s October 2013 issue says about her Megastar mom Sharon Cuneta, adding that she had to turn to other women for beauty advice.
And learn, she did: Through the years, KC was able to adopt a skincare regimen that perfectly suits her busy, jet-setting lifestyle, and she gladly shared out a few of her tips with FN, when we got to chat with her during her cover shoot. Check them out below.
1. USE SUNBLOCK.
“Sunblock is the number one in anti-aging,” KC declares. “Use sunblock for the face, and [a different] sunblock for the body.”
2. INVEST IN YOUR MOISTURIZER
“Nourish, nourish, nourish,” says KC. “You need to invest in your nourishment, like your creams, and you really have to know what’s in the cream. If it works for you, don’t change it, unless you find something better.”
3. KEEP IT CLEAN.
“I always wash, like in the middle of the day, and before I sleep. Find a gentle cleanser,” KC advises.
4. BE READY TO WAIT.
“Don’t be harsh on your skin, kasi magagalit balat mo sa 'yo in the future (Don’t be harsh on your skin because your skin might get mad at you in the future),” says KC. “The more gradual, the better, for me... kasi it’s so sensitive and so fragile, para siyang dahon, 'di ba? Once na mag-ano yan, ma-damage 'yan, anong gagawin mo (The more gradual, the better, for me... because it's so sensitive and so fragile, like a leaf. Once it gets damaged, what will you do?)?”
5. KNOW WHAT WORKS FOR YOU.
Your favorite actress’s night cream or cleanser, no matter how pricey it is, might not work as well for you. “We’re always made up, so we have specific products that people like us would use but other people won’t need,” KC says. “Just because we use it, it doesn’t mean that [everyone should use it.]”
6. LOVE THE SKIN YOU’RE IN.
White may be hot in many Filipinas, but this fair-skinned beauty believes otherwise. “The whole thing about bleaching skin, for some weird reason, when I came back from Paris, I was so into bronzing. I would take bronzing pills, carrot-based pills to get darker, and when I came here, everyone wanted to be white,” KC recalls. “For me, ang ganda ganda 'din ng tan. Parang mas may flavor 'yung tao, mas nakaka-yummy (For me, tan skin is so beautiful. It gives a person more flavor, it makes her yummier.).”
