Actress Iza Calzado has been with GMA-7 for almost 10 years, but after her contract ended with them this month, she decided it was time for a change. On January 24, Iza officially changed networks and signed a three-year contract with ABS-CBN, PEP.ph reports.
"I just think that this is [the] time for me to grow, to evolve, to learn," she is quoted as saying. "I think it's just a matter of timing, and I've always wanted to work again with people from Channel 2."
Iza previously worked with actors and crew from ABS-CBN when she starred in the Star Cinema movie Milan in 2004.
Her current contract includes at least one teleserye, reality show, and movie. "What I am allowed to disclose at this very moment is mayroon po akong drama show at magkakaroon ako ng reality TV show," she said. "Hindi naman ito tungkol sa buhay ko, kaya huwag kayong mag-alala, hindi n'yo ako susundan sa bahay ko. (Don't worry, the show isn't about my life, so you don't have to follow me home.)"
Among the ABS-CBN stars she's looking forward to working with are Milan co-star Piolo Pascual, John Lloyd Cruz, Gerald Anderson, Judy Ann Santos, Bea Alonzo, and Encantadia co-star Karylle. Iza said she hoped that no one in her new network would see her as a rival or competitor, given the number of talented Kapamilya stars. "It serves as a motivation and challenge, but I'm not going to take anyone's place," she is quoted as saying. "I would like to make my own space and fill up a certain niche that maybe only I can fill."
She also didn't forget to thank GMA-7 for taking care of her all these years, especially her friends from noontime show Eat Bulaga!. "Isa sa pinakamahirap na desisyon sa akin na iwanan ang Eat Bulaga!," she confessed. "You can never understand what it is like unless you were part of that family."
