Dwarfina actress Heart Evangelista was at the airport when a fire struck her house in Carmona, Cavite, on Saturday, 24 Oras reports. "Hinala [ng pamilya ni Heart] nagmula ang apoy mula sa kapitbahay nilang madalas daw magsiga ng kawayan. Pinakiusapan na raw ng pamilya ni Heart at inireklamo sa barangay pero walang nangyari (Heart's family suspects that the fire came from their neighbor who always burns bamboo. They had previously asked their neighbor to stop burning wood and even reported the incidents to barangay officials, but nothing happened)," the reporter said. Siga is the process of burning waste to get rid of it.
The incident at Heart’s house is just one of many cases of fire in the Philippines this year. The Bureau of Fire Prevention reports that 686 fire incidents were recorded in January 2011 alone, with 68 casualties and around P240 million in property damages. Among these incidents, 512 were listed as accidental.
