Robert Downey Jr. is officially bringing Iron Man to the upcoming Spider-Man reboot.|

The actor, who has played Tony Stark and his superhero alter ego since 2008, will appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming, opposite newcomer Tom Holland as the titular web-crawler.

The project will mark the second team-up between Iron Man and Spider-Man, as Holland is making his debut as the character alongside Downey Jr. in Captain America: Civil War, due out in May 16.

Downey Jr. joins a cast including Zendaya and Marisa Tomei - his co-star in 1994 romantic comedy Only You.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is slated to hit cinemas on 7 July, 2017.
