Looks like reconciliation is impossible for now for sisters Gretchen and Marjorie Barretto.
In an interview with DZMM Teleradyo last night, March 23, Gretchen said that she’s not ready to make peace anytime soon with her younger sister.
"May kasabihan nga, 'Never say never,' but as far as Marjorie is concerned, allow me to say: 'never,'" the 49-year-old actress said.
She added: "Simply because I value my life, I value my mental health, I value my peace, and my finances. I am not ready and I don't think I will ever be ready with Marjorie."
Gretchen also revealed that Marjorie has been nothing but "toxic."
"She has become so toxic in my life na I would not stop loving her, but I also love myself, I also love my family. So let me stop there," she explained.
The clamor for the reconciliation of the two sisters started last March 21, during an Instagram Live session by Gretchen. The video showed Gretchen and Claudine together. The two just reconciled earlier this year after six years of estrangement.
"I feel this sense of freedom that I have only with Claudine. Claudine among all," Gretchen said on the IG Live. "I don’t want to name names and then start anything new. Siya lang ang kapatid ko na hindi ako kinailangan, na hindi niya ako ginamit. She never asked for money from me. So, even if she goes any side, you know, I don’t question. You know what I mean?"
She also shared her feelings about her six-year misunderstanding with Claudine: "It's something I could not admit to anybody. I couldn't talk about her for the longest time. But that day, I found myself uttering just the utter truth. No pride, no whatsoever. I wasn't thinking of whatever happened in the past—the hurtful things."
Consecutively, fans were hopeful that Gretchen will make peace with Marjorie, and even with her parents, as well. But Gretchen reiterated that she’s not ready for this.
"I'm not ready and I don’t think I’ll ever be ready to be okay with them, because 'pag sinabi n'yo, 'Pinagdadasal po namin, Miss Gretchen, na maging okey kayo with the rest of the family.' Huwag ho ninyo idasal 'yon, kasi pag dinasal n'yo yun, hindi ko po kaya," the actress explained.
She further explained: "Mentally, emotionally hindi ko po kaya. Right now, I am happy where I am, I am happy with Claudine, I am happy with my children and that’s all I want."
One of DZMM Teleradyo hosts Ogie Diaz also asked Gretchen if her statements mean she officially ends her relationship with Marjorie.
"Sweetheart, hindi sa tinatapos. It’s just that alam mo, may kasabihan, responsibilidad natin ang sarili nating mental health, emotional health, yung state natin, what we feel," she explained. "I feel like I am most at peace without Marjorie, and without the rest of the ones that you’re mentioning."
She added: "For the past few years, I have found refuge and comfort and a lot of love and I feel so great with the people I’m with, and they are not blood-related at all. They don’t need my money, they don't need anything from me, just me, because okey lang kami. Ayoko noong pinapanood parati yung ginagawa ko at kung anong meron ako at kung anong pwedeng makuha sa akin, parang I’ll never feel safe, I want to feel safe."
