The project is a Netflix original entitled The Sea of Silence

Sorry, rom-com fans—based on the plot synopsis, this won’t be a lighthearted romp. The sci-fi thriller is set in a futuristic dystopian Earth, where resources are scarce due to desertification. The story focuses on a special aeronautics team assigned to retrieve important samples from an abandoned research base on the moon.

Gong Yoo has been tapped play the role of a soldier and team leader

The actor is reviewing the role of Yoon Jae, the charismatic leader of the Space and Aeronautics Administration. His agency confirms he is considering the project, although nothing’s set in stone just yet. No news on the rest of the cast, but Kingdom’s Bae Doona was also offered a part as a member of the space team.

Production will start this year

Excited to see Gong Yoo on the small screen once again? You’ll have to wait just a little longer! Production for 8 episodes is set to start August this year.

It has a pretty solid production team behind it

Choi Hang Yong, who directed the short film the series is based on, is handling the project. The screenwriter is Park Eun Kyo, who collaborated with Parasite director Bong Joon Ho on the script of the award-winning movie, Mother. Meanwhile, Hallyu superstar Jung Woo Sung is also set to join—as an executive producer!

We hope this pushes through!
