Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins has confirmed the band is embarking on an “indefinite hiatus”.

Fans of the rockers grew both concerned and excited late Tuesday night, when the band posted a cryptic message on Twitter which read: “Official band announcement tomorrow night. Stay tuned.”

Some devotees were positive the news would be related to the upcoming Glastonbury festival in the U.K., but others were not so positive, fearing it could signal a split.

On Wednesday, Artisan News reporters released a video interview they had conducted with Hawkins on 16 January, revealing the group has no plans to hit the road or the recording studio any time soon.

“We’re on ‘I-hate-us’ right now, we’re on an indefinite I-hate-us’,” Hawkins said with a pun on the word “hiatus”. “It’s not because we don’t love each other, or don’t want to make music together… We did so much in the last five or six years – we as a band could go into the studio tomorrow and have just as much fun as we ever had, but I think the world needs a break from us for a little while.”

An official announcement has yet to be released.

The news emerges a day after the New York Post’s Page Six reported there was “tension” between frontman Dave Grohl and Hawkins, with the singer planning to go solo, but a representative told Entertainment Weekly the rumor of a feud was “utterly ridiculous”.

The 2016 break isn’t the band’s first hiatus – in 2008, the rockers announced they would be taking some time off from touring, and they remained inactive for three years.

Last year was indeed a busy one for the rockers, as they celebrated their 20th anniversary by going on a world tour, during which Grohl fell off stage during a gig and broke his leg.

In late 2015, they released a surprise EP called Saint Cecilia.
