Jodi Sta. Maria’s transformation from supporting actress into leading lady did not happen overnight. In fact, she had to wait for 15 years before she was offered the biggest break of her career, the role of Maya in the TV series Be Careful with My Heart. Even then, she says she was initially unsure if she could handle the challenge.

“I kind of got scared because it’s the first leading role that was offered to me,” Jodi was quoted as saying in Good Housekeeping’s September 2013 issue, which features her on the cover. “Natakot ako na this show could either make or break me… Na hindi ko kaya magdala ng show (I was afraid because this show could either make or break me... That I won't be able to carry a show.).”

Her doubts turned out to be unfounded: Be Careful with My Heart turned out to be a huge success, and the slow-but-sweet romance between Maya and her boss, Sir Chief (played by Richard Yap) has become one of the most kilig-inducing love teams in local TV. But despite her many successes, Jodi has been able to keep her priorities in check and has remained practical, humble and approachable, much like her on-screen alter-ego. We saw this firsthand during her cover shoot for the magazine, and we just have to get this out of the way--this girl is made of genuine leading lady material.
